Mamrie puts in a solid effort to cheer up her best friend by coming up with the most ridiculous ways for Chester to suffer. “I mean, you could deny him sex, but then why cause yourself pain? Does Chester have a cat that you could feed dog food too? Can you feed him dog food? We could lace his microphone with hot sauce. We can sell his organs on the black market! How do you feel about moving to Vietnam for two weeks...” Mamrie goes on and on, each idea become more ridiculous than the first.
Unfortunately, Grace still remains a little distracted. She is rambling on, barely noticing that they’ve ended up at an almost empty skating rink “Mames, do you think maybe Chester doesn’t love me anymore but he’s too nice to say it? I used to think I never wanted to be a wife or a mother or basically have any attachment to something that walks on less than four legs. But... Chester makes me want all of that shit and I never even told him. What if he doesn’t know that? What if...” Grace is practically hyperventilating on the verge of a panic attack, so much so that Mamrie literally has to slap her.
“Grace, can you just calm the fuck down for a second and look up you idiot.” Mamrie tries not to laugh at her best friend, knowing how much emotional turmoil Grace is currently going through. Grace slowly looks up, and can barely contain her grin. In front of her is an empty skating rink. The outside of the rink is decorated in beautiful twinkly lights, catching the hint of tears on her face. In the middle sits an adorable red plaid blanket, complete with a wicker picnic basket and an equally adorable Chester See.
“Eat shit Mamrie Hart, how dare you not tell me about this. You’ve let me suffer all day without breathing a single word? Damn you’re good...” Grace exclaims, slightly pushing Mamrie to punish her for her sins.
“What can I say, I’m a sneaky bitch. Unlike your boyfriend, I can actually look in you in the eye and keep a secret. Now go to Prince Charming, that rat bastard. Poor thing can hardly keep it together. He looks like a 12 year old boy trying to hide his bathroom activities from his strict mother.” Mamrie takes this as her cue to leave, pushing an open mouthed Grace onto the ice towards Chester. “And make sure to remember that sex in public is not legal but if you have to do it, use a condom!” Mamrie is unable to resist any joke, always the one to get the last word.
“I know the ice is slippery Grace, but it’s not like I’ve never seen you fall. You’re like the biggest klutz I know.” Chester watches as Grace as she moves towards him like an awkward baby giraffe walking for the first time. Just as Grace opens her mouth to protest his comments, she trips and the ice and lands smoothly onto the blanket. “Nice one Helbig. Bet the judges would give you a perfect score.
Grace narrows her eyes at him. “Watch it buddy! Seriously though, what’s all this for? I know you’re into the cheesy romantic shit, but this is a whole new level.”
“Can’t a guy do something nice for the woman he loves? I just wanted to give you a lovely date to say thank you for all the support you’ve given me. How many guys can say they’re lucky enough to have a girl who will brave the city she hates just to support them? I know you just ate, so I packed us a nice dessert. We can skate off the calories afterwards. Chester says innocently, his eyes gleaming.
“You’re such an idiot.” Grace hits him before leaning in for a perfect kiss. It turns out Chester had packed enough desserts to feed a small army. Grace quickly grabs a pack of Reece’s Pieces and downs them in one go. Chester laughs at her, watching her with wide eyes the whole time. “Don’t judge me See. You’ve put me through a stressful day. I need the chocolate. Chester just shakes his head at her. Grace is pleasantly surprised that Chester managed to put in all her favourite chocolate bars. She cuddles into him on the blanket, content just to be eating and sitting with him.
After they gorge out on numerous treats, Chester pulls out two pairs of skates and tries to convince Grace to skate with him. “Ches I can barely move,” Grace protests.
“Sssh love, I went through all this effort to book this rink just for the two of us.You’ve got to skate with me now. Chester ignores her complaints and gently puts the skates on her feet. Before long, the two are skating hand in hand on the empty rink. Grace barely questions the music that starts playing, knowing that Chester has probably put a lot of time into the minuscule details. She pulls back after awhile when she notices that his fingers are trembling.
“Are you cold Chester? I know you put so much work into this, but it’s okay if you need to go somewhere to warm up.” Grace is so concerned for Chester that she doesn’t see his eyes mist up.
“Grace... uhmmm... no I’m not cold. Ummm, ummm... I wish I was good at words and stuff, “ Chester mumbles before taking a deep breath to compose himself. He stops to stare at her for a minute before continuing. Just when Grace thinks she can’t handle the pressure anymore, he continues. “Grace, you know it’s impossible for me to string words together form a complete sentence without sounding like a bumbling idiot, so instead I wrote you a list of 38 reasons why I love you. Here, read it please!” Chester tries his hardest to keep his hands from shaking, as he hands Grace his note.
38 Reasons Why Chester Loves Grace- Written by Chester See
38. Your emotional repression- it’s saved me from getting killed the past days. (Please don’t kill me, I love you)
37. People go on about your legs (which obviously I love) but it’s nothing compared to your smile and the way it lights up those big brown eyes
36. You have adorable feet- even if you complain that they are too big. They could use some deodorant though...
35. Your legs. They deserve their own reason
34. Your nose. It’s so bitty and adorable. Chester NOSE (that he loves you)!
33. Every body part...
32. The fact that I know you well enough that you’ll probably stop reading this note to hit me
31. Your brain- Good save eh?
30. You don’t even realize how beautiful you are
29. You have a ridiculous obsession with dogs on Instagram that I love, even when you wake me up at 3 am to show me Yogurt the Pirate Dog wearing a sailor outfit
28. You’re one of the few people in the world who manages to be almost as awkward as me
27. Your dance skills. Not to mention the fact that you don’t even realize how good you are!
26. You make me laugh
25. Your horribly cute singing voice. Seriously, I could listen to that screech all day, but I do appreciate the ear plugs you bought me for when you are practicing your songs for your No Filter Shows

23. Your cute little snores
22. Your ability to trip on your own two feet. It’s a skill my love

3. Your lack of logic- because for some reason, despite my flaws and awkwardness and inability to form a thought, somehow you still love me (I hope). I don’t care if we never have kids, or if you turn ugly and fat I will love you for the rest of my life.
2. I love you
1. Look up
Grace looks up, tears glistening down her face as she sees her beautiful, beautiful idiot in front of her on one knee. Suddenly it’s like the whole world is standing still- she can’t hear any music, she can’t see anything but Chester, holding out his hand that contains a hideously large box. “Grace Anne Helbig, I know I don’t deserve you. And I know that you never wanted to get married. But I love you so much that I’m willing to give all that up for you. This ring doesn’t have to mean anything other than I love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you- married, not married, kids, no kids. Whatever makes you happy... or sad... or...” Chester’s eloquent speech started off so well, but his nerves get the best of him and he begins to ramble.
Before he can go on with his ramblings, Grace kneels down in front of Chester and grabs hold of his hand holding the box. “Chester Lionel See, will you shut up and ask me to marry you already? I can’t stand to listen to you trying to string words together.” Grace is trying not to choke on her words and it’s already too much. Understanding this, Chester wordlessly opens the box, pulls out a vintage inspired ring that suits Grace perfectly, and places it on her slender figure. They cling to each other, crying and giggling and hugging each other tightly until neither of them can breathe.
“That was quite the proposal Mr. See. Only you could make me so angry and then end up coercing me into marrying you with your usual adorable gusto. You really are something.” Grace breaks the silence with a happy wink.
“Consider yourself lucky future Mrs. See. I almost rented us out a reindeer named Sven and a five piece orchestra for the occasion. Now let’s go home. Mamrie’s already threatened to draw a penis on my face if we don’t give her all the details ASAP.”
