Okay I need to say it. I think the popularity of romance books/smut/romance tropes like physically + sexually abusive and controlling abusive male leads is partly hindering the progress of women's rights with it's use of Soft Power narratives, or power through desirableness. Yes it's all fiction, yes women should read what they want, yes it's part of a greater culture of female socialization, yes its good that women are staying away from irl men, but i think we need to talk about it more. For one thing, i wont say it started the recent boom of violent sex culture but it definitely promotes it as many girls' first exposure to sexual media is through romances and smut, and not to mention how pornified its become along with everything else. And it's not just fiction because people are doing this in real life, with real people. 'Id never want this in real life but I'd definitely roleplay it' I see that one a LOT.

With the popularity of booktok and smut there's been men who are absolutely disgusted yes, but only because they think women shouldn't have drives at all, or they're mad as shit about the fact that only good looking sexy men get Abusing Women Privileges. And they're disgruntled about the popularity of the bad boy trope. Like look at this random reddit example which echoes male sentiments I've been seeing absolutely everywhere

A significant other portion of men support this, because if you're a pos misogynist all you have to do is say you support women's choices to like what they want and you'll have both the opportunity to abuse them without consequence and get praised for it. If there is actually somehow a man uncomfortable with it he's gonna get reassured by thousands of feminists on how some women love getting abused!! Consent!! Feminism choice empowerment!! It's crazy out here.

There are a lot of women gloating over how mad men are over romance/smut while not realizing how we're reinventing misogyny in new desirable ways every day. And just how many men are going to take advantage of this recent boom. Misogyny is misogyny is misogyny. At the end of the day It doesn't matter that we can separate reality from fiction and that women can like certain things or that it's more nuanced than we think. The damage is done, for women as a group, it keeps us right in our patriarchal chains.

Liberal feminism is an actual plague. Literally how are we going to condemn horrible acts of oppression then turn around and say it's okay as long as you get off to it. Can you imagine doing this with any other movement?? Imagine if a major talking point in anti racism was that poc deserve rights and respect, but if they consumed extremely racist media willingly and/or they choose to degrade themselves for a white person it's just a fantasy? and just fiction? and actually really empowering? and actually is anti racism and reclamation? and how absolutely dare you tell poc what to like?? YOU are the actual racist here.. Seriously.

For certain, my favourite theories to come out of the Willuminati on tumblr have got to be the "flayed Hopper" theory and the "Bychance" theory! They bring me so much joy.

Written on this app are some deeply insightful and eloquent posts pertaining to these ideas, that attempt make sense of loose threads, plot holes and neglected symbolism- all taking up quite a lot rent in my head, especially during rewatches.

These theories might not come to fruition in season 5. Of course, I understand that. Regardless, I'd still consider them more entertaining and well written than what the Duffers themselves could create. And maybe even a missed opportunity on their end.

on another note, I did just finish one of the worst classes I think I've ever taught and it was all the mother's fault. I fucking HATE overbearing mom's, but I'm used to them now. There are a ton of mom's who can't handle their child getting words wrong and they want to correct the kid before I can, but this one was different. This one didn't just correct, she SCREAMED at her daughter throughout the whole lesson. Not only that, she was wrong with her pronunciations as she screamed! At certain points I had to say, "Mom is wrong, you are right, keep going." Like, fuck man, you're paying a fuckass ton of money to get your kid private English lessons and you can't fucking shut up for them to be able to learn?

just another little anti-suzaku-hate rant because suzaku kururugi is love & deserves some appreciation (esp if lelouch is gonna get praised)

(these are my feelings after binging Code Geass Season 1. I've just started Season 2 so my feelings can very well change)

I actually like Suzaku Kururugi. Like, a lot.

I love both him and love-hate Lelouch, even though I find many of Lelouch’s actions and his outlook on some things despicable (yet this egomaniac still has a piece of my heart…ergh. It’s tiring, these conflicting emotions).

But people are out here hating on Suzaku yet are worshipping Lelouch when Lelouch has heartlessly murdered and manipulated tens of times more people for his own selfish gain. But it’s Suzaku that people pile grief onto.

This just doesn’t make sense to me.

Suzaku isn’t perfect and his idealism is a little misguided, but at least he cares about humanity more than Lelouch has proven to. Lelouch’s main driving factor is not the Japanese people, but his revenge on his father and providing a better life for his sister (who, if we’re being real here, doesn’t even have that crappy of a life to begin with, especially when compared to the Japanese). The people and “justice” only come after.

Wanting a better world for Nunnally is a commendable goal, but the means he’s taking to get there are just…atrocious at times, honestly. I get that in war, sacrifices must be made. To raise a rebellion, life will be lost. I get that, I totally do. But Lelouch sacrifices lives from both sides with little care unless it’s people he’s directly connected with, and when he is faced with the consequences of his actions (like with Shirley’s dad and Euphemia), he disregards them in the end as merely “a necessary sacrifice.” It’s pretty heartless, actually. He only really shows a struggle with this when it’s people who he personally cares about or has ties to.

And that’s selfishly hypocritical.

This isn’t hating on Lelouch, because as much as he infuriates me, I actually love him a lot. He’s a fascinating character and when he does show his caring, affectionate side, it’s a wonderful thing to behold—however, I’m also able to recognize and call him out on the wrong he does. I’m not saying he doesn’t care at all for humanity or the Japanese, for he does, just when it comes to his end goal vs people, he chooses his end goal every time. If the sacrifice doesn’t directly affect him, he rarely thinks twice about it or will regret it.

Lelouch is willing to sacrifice anything and anyone on a mass scale to give a better life for his sister…and for his revenge. Yet no one dislikes him for this. No one hates on him or calls him out on this. But you know who they will hate on? Suzaku Kururugi.

“He’s a little b*tch” “He’s so annoying” “Can he just die already” “He’s always in the way I hate him so much!!” What did this kid do though to deserve all this hate? Yeah, he joined the Brittanian army, but the whole reason he did so was to make a difference with as little life lost as possible. Suzaku wanted to change things from the inside out in a way that didn’t require so much blood, death and destruction. Yeah, it’s very idealistic and naive, but Suzaku’s intentions and heart are 100% genuine. He doesn’t have any ulterior, self-centered motives driving him like Lelouch does. And he certainly doesn’t willingly sacrifice lives to achieve his goal the way Lelouch does.

Both Suzaku and Lelouch share a goal: to bring peace to the world. Their methods are different, yes, and both characters have some serious flaws. But they’re different sides of the same coin utilizing different means to achieve their goal. The difference is: Lelouch has more selfish reasons as his main driving reason and he’s willing to sacrifice anyone who stands in his way.

It’s hypocritical to praise Lelouch but turn around and hate on Suzaku, especially since Lelouch has done way more heinous things and is willing to sacrifice anybody’s life to achieve his goal (he only debates this when it’s someone directly connected to him). Suzaku at least values human life and is trying to change the world with the least amount of life lost. He’s not perfect and in no way am I saying he hasn't done wrong as well, for he certainly has; however, it's not nearly to the scale as Lelouch and not as intentionally as Lelouch has. So with that, I just don’t get how people will strongly hate Suzaku but will turn around and excuse/worship everything Lelouch does.

Anyways, rant over. Ofc everyone is open to their own opinion and can love/hate any character they want; I just wanted to defend my boy a bit because there are a lot of hypocrites out there who hate on Suzaku for things that they turn a blind eye on when it comes to Lelouch.
