So i was preparing for the mini debate that will take place in class tomorrow on the statement that it is impossible to protect the environment especially with so many countries using so much energy (i’m on opposition) and my brain just went on a whole tangent and so now i have a whole paragraph of philosophy
I’m kind of curious as to what you guys think of it, I hope you can share some of your views ! ^^ it’s kind of long lol
Viewing this question in a more philosophical manner, us humans protecting the environment is just our selfish way of ensuring the human species continues living on because nature can survive just as well without and if not better without us polluting the earth. our definition of protection is to sustain the liveability of the environment for mainly our human species, placing us as the first priority. The only reason we think it's impossible to protect the env is because it will be endangering us as humans. However, if we take a step back and view the environment as a whole without placing our survival as a priority, you will realise that nature and the environment will continue living even with us gone as the liveability of the earth is subjective to each species. It is always possible to protect the environment because it will never die out. Nature will always reset and find a way to survive by itself, it’s only just a matter of time, kinda like a cleansing. And you may be like oh, but how about the animal species? The extinction of a species or an entire population is just part of the circle of life. It can also be argued that the issue of climate change causes too many extreme and fast changes in the environment that it is hard for species to adapt and die out. Take into consideration the wipeout of all dinosaurs which was definitely unanticipated. Though it may seem that every species was wiped out, do remember that life starts out with the tiniest of organisms. The moment a single cell or organism survives, life will start all over again. Now you may counter, how do you know for sure that something will survive after all the destruction on earth? If no organism survives, wouldn't it be impossible? While I don't have a definite answer for that, but it is the exact ambiguity of life that makes it equally as possible for the environment to continue thriving even after destruction. The environment can always be protected, or rather, it protects itself. Even so, if earth itself is really destroyed and blown into a million unrecoverable pieces, who says that our environment is only limited to Earth? The environment consists of everything around us, outer space included. Just because our species and our home planet is wiped out doesn’t mean that the entire universe will come crashing down.
