Switching dramas
I would buy a Gateway 3DS despite allegations that Gateway deliberately included code that would brick your Nintendoo 3DS system if you have run a clone of the card. I mean, this drama is nothing compared to the drama on FurAffinity [where a (half?)rapist is in charge of coding the website.]; the Gateway 3DS fiasco not only can be misinterpreted easily (given the technical nature of the system) but also can more afford to be misinterpreted than the case of FurAffinity. (The only problem is that compatible 3DS systems are becoming increasingly rare, especially since we are essentially looking for consoles made in 2012 when we are in 2014.)
I am convinced due to this post of supporting Gateway. (The 'nutshell' version is that all Gateway did was add another checksum protection that the clones underestimated when the clones copied the cracked firmware. Given that the hack deliberately glitches the 3DS system, the clones ended up making a large mis-step. Besides, given how hard coding is, is there any logic that Gateway would hold its anger THAT long if Gateway wanted to brick people's consoles?)
Then again, I find this a little unfair to Gateway. All Gateway did up to the drama was prove and overprove their worth and deliver, even when GBATemp was being intrusive with Gateway. (On the defence of GBATemp, the site had to handle not only the failed flashcard that was the Crown 3DS but also scores of false claims that a 3DS emulator came out.) This new public relations issue is not doing them any support. I should say that, despite the Gateway 3DS being used with the aims of piracy, the fact that they managed to enter into the system at all is already immensely innovative. I do not want to depreciate their hard work this way. Besides, the other cards, while cheaper, heavily depend on Gateway if they are to run. No Gateway means no clones. (Does anyone remember the scores of R4 clones that are stuck at version 1.18 firmware?) Given this, I would rather stick with the true and honest Gateway 3DS, whether out of a wish to support their hard work or out of insurance.
