6 Days till E3!
Careful not to get sand in your portables while visiting the beach.
13 Days till E3!
Nobody can quite pull off hot pink jeans like Wario can.

“It’s been awhile since E3, but meet the rest of the -tans!”
did you style-us 3d after travis touchdown?
Vaguely. The pose on that particular piece you commented on was absolutely based off Travis Touchdown of No More Heroes, because I thought it would make a neat parallel given the “extending” stylus the original 3DS had, which made me think of Travis’ extending lightsaber-sword. Another part of the design actually came from a character doodle @bugdoodles did in the old Takamin doodle chat (I believe, all I can remember is that it had striking short teal hair, but I never managed to save it).
At the time (2013) I knew I wanted to do a DS-tan sometime in the future and represent its “Clamshell” with a full bancho-like coat. Extrapolating from that, I decided this should carry this over to the 3DS’s design as well, but I didn’t want to make the exact same visual design for her (Like the original Windows OS-tans, I wanted to make each -Tan visually unique so they wouldn’t get mistaken for each other). I settled on shortening the long coat to a jacket with matching pants, and tried to keep the “clamshell” feeling by making the shirt inside the jacket visually striking (settling on a Red/Blue color scheme well associated with old 3D visual technology). Interestingly, DS-tan wouldn’t be finally designed properly until I was commissioned by @thirteenfunbreaker to design all of the Nintendo Handheld-tans a year later (2014).
From there, when I did the actual first picture of her (in the post you replied to), I was settling on the aforementioned pose to show off the extending Stylus, and I mused about the idea of 3DS being called the “King of Handhelds” much like how Travis is referred to as the “Crownless King” of Assassins, given how 3DS started out relatively low in popularity, but had managed to (at that point) become a runaway success. This helped solidify the “attitude” or personality of the console-tan I decided I wanted her to have.
Anyways, that’s a lot of text! I hope you found my answer interesting, at least!
For the first OC Roundup, I figured it was high time I did a complete post on what console-tan designs I was responsible for! When I made XBone-tan in the /co/ doodlechat back in 2013, I never figured it’d become as popular as it did (I mean the only place I ever posted the doodles was here, and back then I probably had something like 25 followers). It’s sort of crazy how the whole thing took on a life of it’s own. My intention was merely to play off the old Windows ME-tan comics from 2chan that were popular back in the day, focusing on giving the characters a good deal of personality based off the flaws or quirks in their products. Here are the relevant tags for the -tans I created, listing them off from left to right in this picture:
#V. Flash-tan (nsfw) #GameBoy SP-tan (nsfw) #DS tan (nsfw) #GameBoy Color-tan (nsfw) #Mac-tan (nsfw) #PC-tan (nsfw) #Vita-tan (nsfw) #PS4-tan (nsfw) #Xbone-tan (nsfw) #U-tan (nsfw) #3DS-tan (nsfw) #2DS-tan (nsfw) #GameBoy-tan (nsfw) #GameBoy Advance-tan (nsfw) #Dreamcast-tan (nsfw) #Switch-tan (nsfw)
Admittedly, there’s other takes by other artists in those tags (after all, there’s no possible way for me to say my -tan design is the “official” one for the system, and many people come up with really excellent designs for the systems too), but that’s why I decided to include the above picture as a reference for which designs were mine under each of those tags. Hope it helps!
2 Days till E3!
I just wanted to take a moment and say, without my friends, @psuedofolio, @gunwildversuseverything, @judgeanon, @brellom, and @iancsamson, I don’t think E3 would mean as much to me. Heck, I originally made the Xbone-tan sketches as just a little joke to entertain them during the E3 season. We all have different tastes in games, and I think those different opinions and viewpoints make watching the presentations and trailers together more fun than it otherwise would be. I consider myself truly lucky to be their friend. I hope you all have a good time during the conference as well!
Just wanted to focus practicing on profiles, to try and improve how I draw expressions/hair.
It’s @zeromomentaii‘s birthday, so I drew their variation of U-tan and 3DS-tan. I hope you have a good one!
