babytrap au! This is another fic that I am hoping to keep short enough (and by that I mean no 100k monstrosities). Several characters are making that decision pretty hard to stick though, since they keep demanding more attention than they should be getting. That said, baby Max is adorable and Malec take about 1.5 days to start catching feelings.

“Tell me shadowhunter, does the Clave know about your extracurricular activities?” Magnus asks him once they’re safely enclosed inside the four walls of his loft. “Because I can’t imagine they’d be so approving of them.” For a shadowhunter who has clearly earned his scars, it takes Lightwood an immeasurably long time to take his eyes off of their new charge. Even then, the glance he shoots him is furtive, long enough to quirk an eyebrow and utter a perplexed, “activities?” before hazel finds its way back to deep, ocean blue. Magnus rolls his eyes at the (possibly accidental, probably purposeful) slight, although, he supposes the clear infatuation is better than the alternative. Magnus doesn’t know how they’re expecting to make this work—he’s not planning to leave a child, let alone an infant, to the tender mercies of a shadowhunter. At the same time, he doubts Lightwood plans to leave his institute behind for a warlock child. Let alone, one he didn’t ask to be the parent of. “I’m referring to our little blueberry here,” Magnus voices, leaning his chin on the palm of his hand. With Lightwood back to entertaining the child, he easily slips back into observing the shadowhunter: the way he holds Max, the gentle voice he soothes him with, how he keeps his body angled toward one of the exits. “I doubt the Clave sanctioned a mission to ensure his safe return.”
