Vienna - Ultravox

Dancing with Tears in My Eyes - Ultravox 

I wasn’t feeling too confident in making a costume like piece that I like the look of, so I decided to experiment more digitally. First, I did some animation experiments to get a feel for the way clothes move and the vibe of New Romantics music videos since they’re a very important aesthetic part of the movement. I then moved on to these drawing experiments where I’d simply draw horizontal lines with slight contours over frames of New Romantic music videos. I decided that the overall aesthetic of the videos showed this theme of feminine appropriation best. In the end I decided to base my final piece on the frame I drew from Vienna by Ultravox.

Installation

I love how the light played with the final installation how I was expecting. I think it relates to the theme of human evolution, ability to recognise patterns/intelligence and sutures very well. It really ties the three avenues I initially researched into at the beginning phase of this project.

Clay experiments

Clay experimentations. I really like these; in the end they were shown as a triptych work. I wanted to experiment with different media just to see if I preferred that reticulated look of my work in a different way. It did a very good job of replicating the suture look but, in the end, I think I preferred the original paper idea best. They were quite hard to transport into college, so I had to last minute try to repair them as a few cacks had occurred during the transportation process. I hope they stayed relatively intact after the last installation day.

Final Variant creation

The creation of what is one part of my final installation. Originally intended to just be a development I decided I liked it too much in the installation site that I would display my work in two parts.

Paper Ridge experimentations

Experimentation with the ridges, tried twisted paper instead of the ridges I normally did. I preferer the original folded ridges over the twists.
