for his entire life, your boyfriend has suffered from chronic insomnia, and after nearly a decade of trying out dozens upon dozens of different treatments, he has simply given up on trying to eliminate the disorder completely and instead has decided to focus on mitigating the long-term health effects. eight hours every single night seemed too unreasonable, so he settled for six, taking all of the typical advice doctors would give him to help him feel more drowsy, like drinking chamomile tea and turning off his electronics before bed.
of course, you’re there to support him every step of the way and help out with the little things, and you find it most effective to remain awake until he’s willing to come to bed with you, cuddling with him until you doze off in his arms because he felt too guilty keeping you up for too long on account of waiting for him. you always fall asleep before he does, but tonight, you were more than determined to tire him out and watch his eyes close before yours.
if your boyfriend has to name the greatest love of his life aside from you, it would be his work as a locksmith. even though he has his own workshop in the slums of the city, he still can’t help but bring home some pieces so that he can continue his work at home. while most would think that he only brings back a handful of items, he has actually managed to turn the extra room into a near-identical replica of his workshop, aside from how it was missing a handful of expensive equipment that he was saving up for.
he can easily lose track of time and spend hours upon hours in there without so much as glancing up even once, and even though you entered in hopes of seducing him back to the bedroom, all dressed up in silks with his favorite perfume on, it’s easy to see why he’s so in love with his craft. it’s as if you enter an entirely different world, quiet with the faint smell of metal and rust, and kaisei sitting at the table with a bright lamp shining where his hands met as he fiddled around with a particularly complex padlock.
although you entered in complete silence, he knew you were drawing close just from the gentle scent of flowers radiating from your body, taking in a deep breath while your arms wrapped around his waist in a gentle embrace, “sorry for taking so long again. i’ll be done in a little bit.”
there a hint of mild disappointment in his voice, not at you for interrupting him, but at himself for being unable to control his workaholic and insomniac tendencies. it was nearly midnight now, but he still wasn’t even close to tired enough to go to bed with you, and there was hardly anything else he could think of aside from finishing this task for his client tomorrow, to whom he swore that he could fix it by the next day.
you let out a hum in return, moving to rest your chin in the crook of his neck while peering over his shoulder, “it’s alright, i don’t mind waiting for you. come to bed when you’re finished, okay babe?” you leaned forward to give him a sweet kiss on the cheek before disappearing as quickly as you appeared, leaving him to linger with your words for a moment before putting his things down and running after you. he’ll be damned if he lets some locks take away any more time from spending with you than it already has.
