Did you know Death lights a candle for those who he cannot collect? The notion of a soul taken- it's bright spark holding Death's boney hand, safely delivered to the afterlife with a warm glow- does not diminish the agony he feels over the ones who he could not give a home. The souls left behind to fester and entwine themselves in the living realm would not take his hand, and Death mourns them with a warm glow of his own.
