Strathisla 1967/2007 40Y (43%)
The second dram at the Green Man was this Strathisla 67 which I immediately noticed upon entering. It was the dram of the week, opened for Mireille's anniversary. The fact that the bottle then enters the range says a lot about the uncomplicated and warm way the Green Man is run. This deep and dry sherries Speysider needed some time to open up. As with all good, old sherry expressions, this demands some time. Nosing, I had some red fruits and ripe prunes. Then the (supposedly Oloroso) sherry cask starts to show with herbal notes of liquorice and oregano, complemented with old leather. This profile is continued on the palate. Refined sherry notes, yet fruity and fresh. According to Michiel, Strathisla is on its best when it is past it twenties. All together, a beautiful, layered dream of a sherry dram.
stunning..
