NSWGR 44 class Diesel Locomotives

The 44 class were built by Alco's Australian licensee AE Goodwin, in Auburn (Sydney) and are based on the Alco DL500B model. The locomotives are fitted with Alco 12-251B engines, developing 1343 kW. They were built in two batches, the first 60 between July 1957 and April 1961 and the second 40 between October 1965 and December 1967.

Both 4490 & 4403 are both now owned & operated by Transport Heritage NSW.

4403 (Builders number 82809) was completed on November 1957

4490 (Builders number G-3421-30) was completed in July 1967

Taken from onboard Garratt 6029′s train. 4403 is on the rear of “Nanny” 3526′s train, as we race through Sydney’s inner west, near Stanmore.

Preserved ALCO locomotive #4464

Built by AE Goodwin, Sydney in January 1966, for the NSW Government Railways. The locomotive is now preserved and in the hands of the Lachlan Valley Alco Automotive Group. Photos taken at Goulburn station on 02October 2016

Preserved ALCO locomotive #4464

Built by AE Goodwin, Sydney in January 1966. 4464 shunts it's train into Goulburn station's Platform 1 prior to operating a number of special services in conjunction with the Streamliners 2016 event.
