"I feel like only few trans people were gender nonconforming as kids…" From the people I've spoken with that later came out as trans, both men and women, they felt afraid, like there was something really wrong with them, so they either consciously or subconsciously avoided acting on it. while on the flip of that, cis boys and girls that were gender non-conforming (ie "tomboys") didn't feel uncomfortable with themselves so just did whatever they felt like. idk if this is the norm or not but...

(pt.2) it seems to happen. tomboys may get told that something isn't for girls, but they don't care about that, were a transboy may feel the need to self correct. let me know if I'm way off base, but this has been my experience.

I think you're right. I've been growing up with fear and guilt. I started to feel weird and bad when I started school. I "became" a girl, it was forced into me from the first school day to the end... and I obeyed. During puberty sex dysphoria was very strong and I was old enough to know that it wasn't normal. I tried to convince myself that all girls felt this way. I didn't know about transsexualism and ended up thinking that I was mentally ill. I felt guilt, shame and fear. I really wanted to believe that my sex dysphoria was fault of sexist society and not fault of mental disorder. I didn't know any other option (untill I was 16). My sexual attraction to men made me sure I was mentally ill, because it didn't make any sense? When I discovered homosexuality (I was 13, I'm from religious home...) it felt like "yeah, it's me" but then it became even worse. Because how could I be gay?  

I started to dress in fully men's clothes when I was 16 but still, I was afraid that people just by looking at me would know that I wasn't normal. Tomboys tend to be very self confidend, they also feel good in clothes they wear. I didn't feel good because I knew men's clothes weren't made for my body type. They looked weird and felt uncomfortable, but my need to wear them was stronger than discomfort. I also felt like I didn't have right to wear them because I was not a real man. 

I think gender non-comforming people don't care if they crossdress, they even like it. They don't feel dysphoric because their body type doesn't match to clothes. But trans people don't want to crossdress. First of all, you don't feel it's a crossdressing, because you don't remember about your body. But then you feel so bad in clothes that were supposed to match you so good and it's depressing
