"y-you mean a lot to me." truth weighs heavy on sweetened words, they taste like honey on lips. because she is the sun with how bright she shines and you are happy to revolve around her like a planet, following her around like a young duckling. your smile is wide as you stare at her, sincerity obvious in green eyes. "y-you know that, right? you're important to me. w-we're like.. family. you're stuck with me! haha." a teasing lilt and a flood of giggles follows, nudging her a bit. [ hiiiiiiiiii from izuku ofc
unprompted | @4heroes cares about chiyo and i'm in tears!!
you doubt your impact. it's in your nature, has been since you were young enough to realize how ill-suited you were to be a hero. what good could you possibly do? who could you possibly save? what difference could you possibly make? as a kid, you didn't have a good answer.
sometimes you still don't have a good answer. you've changed, grown into a fine hero, someone capable and confident, yet you still wonder if that's enough. is it enough to be strong? is it enough to save someone? your peers would jump to answer, yes, it's more than enough. your efforts make all the difference, change the lives of citizens who otherwise may have been utterly lost. so maybe it's just you. maybe you aren't satisfied. maybe you're too concerned with the aftermath, with what comes after a person is saved; maybe you think too much, worry too much.
that's what makes you a good person, so your grandmother beams. that's what drives you crazy, you sigh.
that's what leads you to u.a. you teach and train and try to save your students from themselves, and it almost feels like enough. you still doubt your impact, wonder if there isn't more you can do for your students who feel as if the world rests upon their shoulders. you guide them, console them, listen to them, and chase away the shadows, but still you are blind.
izuku's smile shines as he speaks honeyed words, and it's like someone has finally snatched the blindfold from your eyes. you're important. you're family. you're stuck with each other, and your shock easily gives way to a joy that fills your chest, warm and soft and pleasantly overwhelming. your doubt is quiet, silenced by giggles that are too adorable, too contagious to feel an once of wariness. you feel izuku's sincerity, and you reach over to gently pinch a freckled cheek.
" if that's the case, maybe i should be teasin' ya more like an older sister would. " you grin before dropping your hand, the curve of your lips softening. he's important to you, too. you aren't sure how to say it without sounding awkward, insincere. your gaze drops and travels the ground to the tree you once studied beneath as a teen.
" you're important to me, too, " you say, and it doesn't sound awkward as you feared it would. it sounds natural. you meet the teen's eyes again, still smiling but serious. " you'll always have me on your side, izuku. remember that, 'kay? "
