John has his face buried into the mattress, his hand resting softly and tenderly on Sam’s chest. He’s whispering softly. Dean thinks he might be praying.

Dean turns back to Sam and squeezes his hand gently. Very softly, almost imperceptibly,  Sam squeezes back before his eyes close again.
