One of the few songs in which the narrator is sadistic, and takes joy in being such, but doesn’t make make me cringe lmao. The lyrics are pretty clear, detailing a ‘run and hide’ chase, but where both running and hiding are futile for the victim. The ‘infra-red’ makes me think of his scratched mirror add-on, which is the canon loadout for this blog... Choice lyrics: ‘I’m coming up on infra-red / Forget your running I will find you.’
♪ REVERSE A SONG THAT REMINDS ME OF YOUR MUSE: Like Eating Glass - Bloc Party
Circa mid-2000s indie had so many bangers... There’s a high anxiety to this with how fast EVERY instrument is playing that add an immediacy to the narrator’s lyrics -- there’s a lot of visual elements in them that remind me of Quentin. The casual instigation of children crying after being sent home from school holds a tragic relevance, and just that observance devolving into a challenged and somewhat desperate relationship, emotional disconnect from home, repetitive disoriented behaviour and only managing to cope ... just Introverted Depressed Suburban Teen stuff. Again though, the themes are unconventionally paired with a pace that’s hard to keep up with; Quentin being chased by all these elements as well as some dude with claws for fingers. Choice lyrics: ‘I can’t eat / I can’t sleep / An aversion to light / Got a fear of the ocean.’
