DLCC's Discarded Floppy Disk Containers
When I first began preserving legacy computer software on 3½" and 5¼" floppy disks, I acquired surplus disk containers for future storage.
In the case of 5¼" floppy disks, I was fortunate to acquire so many software titles, some containing more than 20 disks per title, that I had to store the disks in larger plastic containers. The surplus 5¼" disk containers I had previously acquired sat on a shelf, replaced by larger containers. All the containers in the photos have sat on a shelf for years, and would never be used.
For the 3½" floppy disk titles I have been able to preserve, I was fortunate to acquire dual-row containers to store them. This eliminated the need for surplus single-row containers.
The 17 containers shown in the photo have been discarded. It's too bad I couldn't have donated these to a museum or fellow computer enthusiast. I thought about donating them to the local thrift store I frequent, but most people today don't even know what these are and are more interested in selfie sticks.
These were not your average floppy disk containers of the day. The 5¼" containers are extra-long, and the 3 dual-row 5¼" containers were very hard to find, even when these disks were the standard media of the day.
I have kept 4 of the largest single-row 5¼" floppy disk containers and 3 dual-row 5¼" disk containers like the 3 shown in the photo. I have also kept some surplus dual-row 3½" floppy disk containers for future storage.
I also have a surplus 8" floppy disk container that I am keeping.
