Week 12: “Release Me” - Jack’s Mannequin

9 years, 10 months, and 19 days ago, I met my future husband at a Jack’s Mannequin show. To be fair, we met through a mutual friend at that show, but I’ll always be thankful to Andrew McMahon and his band for playing amazing music while I flirted with this cute nerdy guy I had just met. Tonight, we get to see Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness (this newer project) and I can’t wait!

Week 11: “Rollin Rollin Rollin’” by Richard Edwards

I really wanted to hold off on repeating artists so quickly, but you know what? Who cares? I wanted this to be a playlist of what I was listening to that week and this week, I’m on a Richard Edwards loop. John and I are going up to NYC tonight so that we can see him tomorrow in Brooklyn. It’ll be John’s first time seeing him and my first with him as a solo artist. I’m really beside myself in anticipation. It’s hard to put into words how much I adore this man’s music, but I just can’t wait to be seeing him live again.

Week 10: “Heavy” by Birdtalker

I first discovered Birdtalker at a conference in Nashville last year. I was immediately in love with their voices, their songwriting, and their music. As I do, when I find a band or song that I love, I listen to it obsessively. This song ended up coming at a key time when my father passed and I went to clean out his apartment in Florida. The lyrics “leave what’s heavy behind” really hit home and I’ll be forever in love with this band for bringing me some peace in a tough time.

Week 8: “She Said” by Sundara Karma

I discovered this song on a random Spotify playlist, which was tailored to my musical tastes. Welp, they figured me out quite well as I fell in love with this boppy tune. I found out they are coming to Philly soon and I scooped up a ticket. Eager to see these guys live in April!

Week 7: “This Modern Love” by Bloc Party

About 7 or 8 years ago, I discovered the “La Blogotheque Take Away Shows” series. They get artists to play songs, usually acoustically, in weird places. They are usually outside and they end up getting these beautiful intimate versions of songs. One of the best is Bloc Party playing “This Modern Love.” It came up on my Facebook as something I posted 7 years ago, so I’m now back down the rabbit hole to find more of my favorites!

Week 6: “First Day Of My Life” by Bright Eyes

On our wedding day, I walked down the aisle to this song to meet John in front of our friends and family. My best friend turned me onto Bright Eyes when I was in high school and I’ve always adored this song. We knew we didn’t want any sort of traditional wedding march or the like for our wedding, so this ended up being the beautiful song we chose. 

I was going through wedding photos this week, so this song popped into my head. Made me think of that special day and how lucky I am to have the husband that I do. Cheesy as it may be, it’s true.
