I am, maybe, the last person who should be saying this, but it needs to be said. If someone did say it earlier and better than I did and I just missed it--which happens with disturbing frequency--please let me know and I’ll, IDK, probably just reblog it or something.

The simple fact of the matter is that lesbians and bisexual women both suffer from erasure, and in both cases it often takes the form of their characters being transformed into the other. Bisexuals are often not even acknowledged as existing, and there’s a whole goddamned history of pulp lesbian exploitation novels that end with the protagonists dead or in relationships with men, followed on the heels by “sexuality is fluid uwu”--

Basically, both sides have good reason to be hungry for more, better representation, and to react poorly when they perceive it as being taken away from them. I’m way too fucking male and straight to be telling you how to solve this (and have no clue regardless), but acknowledging that both sides have valid reasons to feel the way they do is usually the first step in these sorts of situations (you know, those situations where...both sides have valid reasons for feeling they way they do). Y’all are going to be chasing after the same characters most of the time; you’d better find some way to deal with that situation without being at each other’s throats lest you forget that the real enemy is...well, people like me, frankly.

Anyway. Joey Claire. All we actually know about her sexuality is that she’s not straight and not asexual. We know she likes girls; whether or not she likes boys is, at this point, unclear. The first piece of evidence that she does (the password) could easily be the behavior of a closeted person (”I don’t feel like vomiting every time I think about touching him--it must be true love!”) and the second (the narrative seeming to set up a relationship between her and Xefros) would be more convincing if this wasn’t a fucking Homestuck spin-off--Andrew Hussie loves setting things up and then laughing at us when he subverts them.

In short: both headcanons are valid, but be aware that they are only headcanons; nothing is certain until the last act drops, and probably won’t be even then.
