The Love Story of The Great Wall

it was the story which my boyfriend told me somenight. we were in LDR at that time, so he told me via phone. i ain’t know why i still remember this story, but i do remember.

now i’ll retell you this story. this is about a tale of chinese. it is a little bit romantic. so check it out!

A long long ago, in Qin Dynasty, there was an old man named Meng who lived with his wife in Southern Tiongkok. He spread a seed of chayote. It grew up and crept on the neighbor’s wall, Jiang. Both Meng and Jiang did not have children. They took care the plant until it has the fruit. They decided to split the coyote. Suddenly the saw a cute baby inside the coyote. They adopted the baby and called her Meng Jiang Nu. She grew up as a beauty young lady. She was very clever and smart. Many people loved her. Besides, the emperor in that kingdom, Qin Shihuang, was building the great wall, whose function as a fortress. It spread otu from Gansu province to Pasific seashore. Many people became the slaves for its building. They forced to work along of the day even over the night without any payment or food. They were often whipped by the wicked guard. Thus, many people died because of the cruelty. One of the slaves, Fan Xiliang, escaped and hid in the court of Meng Jiang Nu’s house. He was manly and handsome. He saw Meng Jiang Nu and fell in love with her. Then he stepped on a branch of tree on the ground. Meng Jiang Nu was shocked and shouted loudly. Fan Xiliang begged her to stop shouting, then he told her the truth. Meng Jian Nu understood and took him to her parents. They decided that Fan Xiliang should marry Meng Jiang Nu. Both Meng Jiang Nu and Fan Xiliang were happy because they loved each other. There was a servant in Meng’s House. He was Liu Qi, who loved Meng Jiang Nu and hated Fan Xiliang. So he told the wicked guard where Fan Xiliang was. The wicked guard catched Fan Xiliang and brought him to the building of the great wall. Meng Jiang Nu was so sad. She cried hard and begged to the wicked guard to let her her husband off. After a few weeks Meng Jiang Nu could not hold her longing toward her beloved husband. So she tried to find her husband. Her parents could not prevent her desire. Thus they allowed Meng Jia Nu to go with one of their servant Li Qui. Actually Li Qui loved Meng Jiang Nu, he tried to make Meng Jiang Nu to be his wife. She had knew that Liu Qi was the one who reported her husband to the guards. Meng Jiang Nu was very angry to Liu Qi, but she pretended to agree to marry him. "Well I'm going to marry you. But I have one condition. I want you picking wild flowers as a sign of love to me, "said Meng Jiangnu pointing to a flower at the edge of the cliff, with fluttering heart Li Qui immediately went to the edge of the cliff and try to reach the flowers. The flowers grew in the place which difficult to reach. Thus, Liu Qi slipped and fell into the cliff. He died. Meng Jiangnu continued her journey until she arrived at the Great Wall China. To the slaves who work there, she asked where her husband was, but they did not know him. Meng Jiang Nu almost gave up, but there was a slave who ever met Fan Xiliang. The slave reported that Fan Xiliang has been sentenced to death, and he did not know where Fan Xiliang buried. Meng Jiangnu cried all night after heard the news, she hoped God showed where her husband's body. Suddenly tunder struck the Great Wall China and made it collapse. When the ruins came to the sight, the bodies had already become skull . Meng Jiang Nu understood that God had answered her prayer. Her husband must be one of the corpses, but Meng Jiangnu did not know which was her husband's body. Then she bitted her own finger until bleed and shed it to the ground. She prayed God would show which was her husband’s body. Magically, the blood flew towards the Fan Xiliang corps. Meng Jiang Nu gathered her beloved husband skull. Unfortunately, before Meng Jiangnu finished, a group of Emperor Qin Shihuang guards caught her and brought her to the emperor. The emperor was very interested  seeing the beauty Meng Jiangnu and intended to make her as his wife. Meng Jiang Nu refused until she was thrown into prison.

Meng Jiangnu kept thinking that her husband's body had not been buried. Suddenly an idea flashed in her mind. So she begged the guards to let her met the emperor. Meng Jiang Nu pretend to marry the emperor when the emperor would grant three condition. "All right, tell me!" Said the emperor. "First I would like to invite 49 monks to recite prayers for my late husband for 49 days," said Meng Jiang Nu. "Second, I asked my husband corpse buried properly, and you should wear mourning clothes, also had to kneel in front of him." "And lastly, before getting married I wanted to you to accompany me during the three-day vacation"

Emperor face flushed with anger heard Jiang Nu requests. However, because he had promised, the emperor agreed. After the burial ceremony finished, the emperor accompanied Meng Jiang Nu in that vacation. On the last day, Meng Jiang Nu asked the emperor to accompany her seeing the view from the top of the great wall of China. But when they have reached the top of the wall of China, Meng Jiang Nu suddenly exclaimed: "Fan Xiliang wait, I follow you!" And without any doubts she jumped and died. Emperor Qin Shihuang stunned to see what happened and could not do anything excepted burying Meng Jiangnu and Fan Xiliang together.
