I've been meaning to start writing about my experience for a long time. I'm starting today, on my 5th IVF transfer day.
We go in at 12:40 PM to do a day 5 embryo transfer (blastocyst stage). Not sure how many we will transfer yet. We'll chat with the doctor and make the final call today.
This time I am using a process/technique that uses frozen donor eggs. This is a relatively new option for folks like me and my DH. Here's the basic process...
First we selected our donor. It's a bit like match.com but maybe more like real estate/buying a house as you have to move quickly if you see a donor you like or they might get snapped up (no pressure!). The retrieving clinic shipped a batch of 6 eggs to our clinic, we then followed the standard hormone protocol (pills & shot -- the intramuscular kind –– OUCH!) and are ready to go. ISCI took place on Thursday May 30. All 6 fertilized (YAY!) and have continued to grow. As of Saturday we had 5 grade A (some good/some fair) and 1 grade B (fair).
Keep your fingers crossed for me.
PS: I've gone through lots of IUIs and then IVF with my own egg (used "natural cycle" IVF), fresh cycle donor egg and now frozen donor egg. I've used four different doctors in three states and two countries. I'll fill in the blanks on the whole process over the coming months.
