It makes me sound ridiculously vanilla but I genuinely like playing humans in D&D
Thematically it's fun because they're basically viewed as one of the weaker races, they have a short lifespan, no supernatural abilities and no physical advantages. Playing someone that weak compared to the others and being amazing is very fun.
Mechanically, getting a feat at level one is useful as fuck.
