Calum Hood Race Car Driver Chapter Four
Rating: No smut (for this chapter ;) )
Synopsis: The day after the race. Calum and Y/N are planning a get together with their friends (which will include Ashton, Luke, and Michael)
I rubbed my eyes and a yawn escaped me. Exhaustion crept into my bones and my whole body ached. Calum murmured beside me and rolled over to snuggle up to my body. This single act made my body completely relax, yesterday had me completely tense with the stress and worry of Calum dying in his first race. We had been tight on money for some time and Calum didn’t want me to sacrifice not going to school anymore. He knew I needed to go to school to get a better job.
To compromise he suggested racing our mustang, which in truth I had been considering selling to get the extra cash. But Calum insisted that it was too special to get rid of and that he would find a good use for it… At the time, I didn’t think he was thinking about racing the machine.
“What’s wrong, Y/N?” Calum mumbles and looks up at me.
“Nothing…” I avoid his lingering gaze.
“Babe, something is bothering you. I can feel it. Is it about the race yesterday?” He pauses and thought about what he was going to say next, “Look, I know that you don’t want me to do it again, but you know that I will have to eventually. Maybe to you it doesn’t look like a great time, but I absolutely loved it. After I got over the initial terror of possibly dying, I was amazed by how much I loved it. I don’t expect you to understand it, but we need the money and I found something that will get us the extra cash. Plus, I’m not that bad at it. I did get first place.” Calum smirks, his words were sincere and I could see in his eyes how much he meant them. Hot tears streamed down my face at the end of his explanation.
“I’m so terrified of what might happen to you.” I whisper and look down at my fidgeting hands.
“Y/N, please don’t think about that. Think about what might happen to our life if I don’t do this. I need to do this so we can get on top of things, I mean if you wanted to get behind the wheel and race yourself…”
“No, you have a much better chance of winning.”
“Exactly, if I trained you a bit, maybe you could race too. But for now, I need to race for us. Please have faith in me?”
Calum leaned in and pressed his lips to mine softly. We broke apart after a minute of kissing and I stood to prepare for the day. Calum, being a brat, starfished over the bed and threw his arm over his face.
“C’mon, get up. We need to get ready for the day.” I complained at him, but he didn’t budge.
“Calum, get up!” I tug the sheets off of his body.
Reluctantly, the boy got up from the warm bed and walked to the bathroom. The shower turned on and I resumed stripping the bed. Down the hall in our laundry closet, I began to sort through the dirty clothes and load the washer. Doing the chores was not exactly my favourite thing to do, but it was so necessary to get done.
Today, unlike most days, we were having guests over. Some of our closest friends were coming over. This meant we had to clean our small apartment, we had been saving for some time to provide alcohol for our friends, but with Calum’s winnings we were able to get a little more than we thought we would be capable of. Much to our luck as well, we would be able to buy a bit more groceries than usual.
“Babe, do you really have to make such an elaborate dinner for our friends?” Calum complained once we hit the grocery store. Our cart was almost overflowing for once in a long time. The sight of it made me immensely happy. I could not wait to impress both of our friends with my cooking skills.
“I would like to show everyone my cooking skills.” I explained.
“But everyone knows that you are an amazing cook. Trust me, those little dinners you used to throw when you lived in your old apartment were legendary.” He says, I beam at his kind words and grab his hand.
We make our way down the aisles, swinging our hands in the air. His face is beautiful, he is happy he could provide me with this. It upset me that he would continue to race until I would be able to help out. Maybe if I got a third job…
“Whatcha thinkin about?” Calum asks.
“Nothing much, it’s not anything worth talking about.” I say.
Calum opens his mouth to press on but closes it upon noticing the expression on my face. We pay for our things in silence and load our groceries into our car. The drive home is sickeningly quiet and I crank the radio to drown out the noise of my whirling thoughts.
I hated not talking, but some things were better left unsaid. I am sure he probably already guessed what I was thinking about and that maybe now was not a good time to talk about it. I knew soon we would have to think about what our plan was going to be for money. It wasn’t fair that our landlord had hiked the pay of our rent. We tried to find a new apartment on numerous occasions but most of them were more expensive and those that were cheaper weren’t as nice. So we sucked it up and continued renting our apartment.
“How’s the chicken coming along, Y/N?” Calum asks and snakes his arms around my waist. His arms are strong and I lean back into his embrace.
“Great, I am almost done.” I reply.
“Awesome, they should be arriving very shortly, so you might want to get changed.”
