Mutual responsibility is another trait of mentally wealthy workplaces, where a culture of blame is replaced by a culture of shared concern. From a workplace safety perspective, if someone sees a cord in the office over which someone could trip, whose responsibility is it to do something about it? The person who left the cord there? Of course, but what if they didn't realise it was unsafe? Is it the workplace safety manager? Sure, she's responsible for making the organisation safer but she's working interstate for the week and knows nothing about the cord. Is it the cord-leaving employee's manager? He's accountable for the performance of his employees, but he's been in meetings all morning and hasn't spotted the cord either. The answer of course is, the person who saw the cord.

Vijay Anand wants to eliminate corruption. That’s why he co-founded the 5th Pillar, an organization dedicated to providing citizens with the tools to fight corruption. He’s also launched one of India’s most successful anti-corruption campaigns with the Zero Rupee Note, a bill that looks like currency but allows citizens to refuse bribery without fear.

I heard about this a while back but during my time in India I never had the "fortune" to come across the Zero Rupee Note or need "grease a few palms" to get things moving along - usually the riotous state of my afro or a feigned love of cricket was sufficient to get the job done. How it works: Available for download in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam from NGO 5th Pillar's website and Indians can slip them to officials who demand bribes for free public services. Similar to the 50rupee note, on the one side it has 'Zero Rupees' printed and an image of Gandhi & on the other side it has the words "Encourage, Enable and Empower every Citizen of India to Eliminate Corruption at all Levels of Society". Can similar initiatives be initiated across African countries too? Note: *Couldn't find exact stats on "success" apart from claims that there were more than 1million downloads in the first year of issue but in a country of +1billion people... *Also I lived in India for 3yrs and I definitely don't recall seeing any massive ATL campaign for this but perhaps I wasn't the intended audience. *A significant proportion of people who would really benefit from this (those hard-strapped for cash as opposed to being mildly annoyed by having to shell a few rupees) wouldn't have access to the Internet to go download the notes. So perhaps there are other distribution models.
