So this is it, thanks to twitter, the i20 Cross that has been in the news for a long time has now been leaked so here are the first images of the car. To be launched early next month (9th March) the i20 Active (name borrowed from the i20 range in Australia) would be positioned above the Elite i20 hatch and would get more features. As we have said before the exterior changes over the Elite i20 hatch include projector headlamps with DRLs, large fog lamps and skid plate which gives the i20 Active a rugged stance.

Move to the side and you will see black cladding all over plus silver roof rails, cool alloys and the ground clearance being bumped up (30 mm increase over the hatch, evident in the gap in the wheel-arches). While the rear gets a new rear bumper, round reflectors, skid plate and cladding which gives it the pure crossover look. The added styling elements along with the basic design of the Elite i20 works well and the car surely looks very good. Inside things would largely remain the same but we expect the rugged persona of the i20 Active being carried over in form of new upholstery.
Engine wise as we have earlier reported there would be no changes so the 1.2 petrol and 1.4 diesel would be carried over from the hatch with only a manual gearbox on offer. The suspension though has been upgraded so that its ride and handling balance is not affected thanks to the increased ground clearance.Price wise we expect a significant increase but going by what is on offer it seems quite justified and it will be priced on par with its rivals. A starting price of Rs 6.5 lakh for the base i20 Active is what you can expect.
