“Daniels, are you telling me that you broke your whip on purpose just so you could come down to the lab and waste my time when I’m on a deadline building you a pair of sensor Ray Bans just so you can not fuck up your next mission??”

“Well shit, pumpkin, I gotta get your attention somehow--how am I supposed to get you to marry me if you’re not even gonna say yes to a damn date?”

Folding your arms over your chest, you stare down his simpering smile with all the calm and cool you can muster, “Well, you’re not, are you.”

But something in you thaws--then catches fire--when you’re met with deep, brown, puppy-dog eyes that instantly and dramatically shift into pure Southern stubbornness.

“The hell I ain’t.”

Hey there, nonnie, thanks for the challenge! It IS fun. But it's so hard for me to write angst without a little relief....

“We’ll talk about it later.”

Din clangs down the ramp of the ship, following after the heartbreakingly gorgeous warrior and something irrational and panicked hitches in your chest, needing to know he’s not angry, needing validation...

“Wait..wait...you’re choosing her over me?”

He stops at the end of the ramp and turns the visor up to you, steady, cold, revealing nothing, and you suddenly hear how aching and small you must sound.

“Don’t worry, little one,” Fennec calls out from behind him, “I don’t really care for canned meat.”

“Trust me,” his modulated voice crackles through the vocoder as he speaks softer than it can truly handle, “I promise I'l come back, okay?”

The smoke trails out from him in a lazy flow when he quietly rumbles, “Why do you have to go today?”

Wearing nothing but sweat and a perpetual tan, he leans back against the headboard looking out the window, squinting as he takes a slow drag from a cigarette pinched between thumb and forefinger.

“Because,” you sigh, pulling your pantyhose up and on under the skirt he didn’t even bother to take off, “my assignment at the clinic is finished and I only signed up for a year-long stint and my lease is up.”

“You have something else lined up?”

If you could say no, you would, but you’re struck dumb as he runs the back of a finger gently up your spine, curling his hand around the back of your neck and lightly kneading the muscle there.

“This apartment's fucking huge, you know...you could just…” he takes a moment to exhale, swallowing the hitch in his voice to whisper, “...stay…"

Hi, yes, I know I just did 500, but I got to it late and it was open for a while and 600 folks are here now and WHAT. Listen. This place is chaos and I am just here for the madness. It looks like you are too! AND I LOVE YOU FOR IT.

I love our little hellsite for a miread of reasons--fic, art, crazy shitposts, beauty, softness, smut, memes--but I love love love the folk here and I very much enjoy thinking up little stories. So what if we combine that for a little fun?

I’ll keep this pinned and post this once a week for the next six weeks and answer whatever lands in my box in that time.

Lazing on the cot with her ankles crossed, book held up above her, reading up from below, Cee’s completely engrossed in a new novel when she feels a hand close in around the toes of both feet at once, tearing her oversized socks off in one swift pull.

She looks up in surprise at a wry Ezra who's examining his reclaimed property, accusing her, “Oh, you’ve started stealing my socks now?”

Her pout carries in her voice, a little whine over her chilling toes, “I’m all out of clean ones and you’ve got lots.”

With a shit-eating grin, he leans over and scrubs the captured socks in her face, eliciting a shriek from the girl and causing her to drop the book in order to have hands free, shielding herself from attack.

Surrendering his fluffy weapons and claiming the book, Ezra plops down on his cot, waving his new prize at her in a regal decree, “Up off your tender quarters, then, birdie, and introduce yourself to lady soap and lord water and may your days at the court of laundry be blessed and brief.”

With a roll of the eyes, she stands and petulantly snatches her laundry bag, trudging her way to the fresher under Ezra's smug watch and loving smirk.

The village had seemed tame enough, but one fiery street preacher on one corner and the men decided that with a seer in their company, it would be safer to camp in the woods for the evening.

William shrugs when you protest, dropping an armload of kindling before tromping back into the brush for more, calling out over his shoulder, “No need to take chances and we save money this way.”

Since he walks away from the argument, you pivot in frustration to Tovar, who’s just standing there, glaring at you with the same unsettling stark intensity he’s been making you shiver with for a silent day and a half.

Putting on a challenging voice to make him understand he can’t shake you, you continue the debate, “I mean, what’s the benefit to sleeping out in the open without the protection of walls when we could be snug in our own rooms at that inn?”

“Walls won’t protect you,” he growls softly, his dark eyes holding yours and sending a rush of heat down your spine as he turns and trudges back into the brush, "here you’ll sleep next to my swords.

I’ll protect you.”
