"While I was working at Sportswear International magazine, I was asked to write some supporting text for a great pictorial book on classic denims from Levi’s, Lee and Wrangler. The fashion director William Gilchrist (now stylist to the Rolling Stones) and the in-house photographer Roberto Manzotti arranged their finds by decades. I wrote a short introductory chapter for each decade, setting the changes in jeanswear in the social, economic and cultural context of the USA. Twenty years on, Cult: A Visual History of Jeanswear is a hard-to-find favourite with denim fans." - Eric Musgrave
