❝ relax. not everything i say is a backhanded remark. a lot of it is, but you oughta know by now that the guys deserve it sometimes. ❞ leah may not agree with many things bella does, but she was self aware enough to know that she was no handbook on how to make good choices. plus, tonight she really does not have it in her to have a heated argument. she had mellowed out some with less vampire drama and space from the nauseating thoughts of the imprinters and the constant reminders of her dad as she had gotten the go ahead from the elders and somewhat hesitant agreeance of sam to let her go to college. she did visit quite a bit, considering seth was still going through high school and she would never abandon him. her wolf came in handy, making the trip a little over an hour run with a straight shot.

her brown eyes narrowed in bella's direction. a decent amount of the tension between them was a bit unfair on leah's side. in general, a lot of people got caught in the crosshairs of leah's own shit and she had been trying to work on that as of late. not very easy while she was forced to be constantly around sam and emily, sam's thoughts, and constant (mutual) beratement from the other guys. getting bombarded with jacob's own idiotic, lovesick thoughts didn't help bella's case. neither did the whole vampire versus werewolf divide between them. the cullens may be gone now, but the aftershocks had cost leah joining the pack and her first phase had cost her her father. despite it all, she blamed vampires for her life falling to shit and empathy or love toward them from any direction was rather triggering for her. even if she knew all of that objectively, leah couldn't let the 'bitter harpy' mask slip.

nostrils flared, but her words are a lot less caustic and more begrudgingly amused that bella actually had come to her for help. that did take a certain amount of bravery -- or perhaps desperation. ❝ you going to tell me what you want or are you waiting to hug it out first? ❞

It's no lie that Bella has taken Esme entirely by surprise, although Esme's not entirely sure why she never expects that from them girl. Bella's taken Esme by surprise since the day they first met.

And yet, Esme hasn't ever thought too deeply about circumstance at all. In truth, she's not sure she has a sufficient answer, but she can try.

"We met when I was sixteen. It was fleeting and entirely unromantic. I'd broken my leg falling from a tree and he happened to be the doctor who treated me that day." Her smile is wide; this particular memory is one of her stronger human recollections. "I can't lie and say he didn't elicit something in me. There's hardly any denying the fact he's simply beautiful, but... It was more than that. My parents had admonished me for being too old for such accidents—told me the doctor would agree, too—but instead he laughed as I explained; he told me that the book I was reading must indeed be good since it was still clutched to my chest as he plastered my cast."

She laughs, coming to perch opposite Bella on a kitchen island stool.

"He left and, well... I couldn't stop thinking about him from that moment on. The way he listened to me go on and on, how he asked after my interests and desires in life. He was gorgeous, but more importantly, he listened."

Esme sighs, her gaze falling to observe her wedding band. "Between then and meeting him again, I saw his face nearly every day. Particularly on those that seemed hardest to get through. Seeing him once more when I came through my transformation was like a balm against a burn. I guess what I'm trying to say is that... he felt like home; he still does."

Her eyes wander up to meet Bella's own, glossed lips resting with a fond smile.

"I knew, and know, because it feels like the last piece of a puzzle slotting into place. It feels like belonging with out any conditions. It's safety and security I can only find in him, and him alone. Does that help answer your question?"

23. — what skills have you gained by roleplaying?

i’ve been roleplaying since i was 13 so i can definitely say i’ve gained a lot of good writing skills!! i’m now a writing major and it definitely has helped me there :) but also i’ve learned some (basic) photoshop and editing skills which is pretty cool too!

"oh," flori chuckles, "definitely." she nods her head, a smile spreads across her lips immediately. "all the time. in fact, this one time, when i was a kid, my mom and dad - they had a date, right? date night. just the two of them. they got one of the older kids in the neighborhood to babysit me and i remember her, though not her name, because she had so many pets and each time she babysat me, she brought one along: a cat, a dog. a snake, even. pretty sure she also had a rat. or at least a hamster. and i was delighted. the dog was my favorite because he was the most receptive to cuddles on the bed. even though my dad didn't really like the notion of that. at all."

"i'm pretty sure she moved away shortly before i started high school. sometimes i think about trying to track her down, but i never do. it's probably for the best what with the world we live in."
