DeeDee is a Martin Mustang now! 6th grade, here we goooo!
...........a day like this made me sit down and think a little bit:
What do I want to leave behind for my kids, and especially DD, who will one day be a grown man, getting by in this ruthless as$ world?
A sound self-confidence.
That is the one thing, that we as parents, owe our children. It is like a donated organ. You can't give it to your child without giving a part of yourself, your time, your love, your integrity, your ever-present care and consistency.
You can' t buy it cheap. It is not about telling him, how good or talented he is. It is not about expensive hobbies. It does not come attached to brand clothing or designer shoes.
It comes from listening to him, understanding and respecting him. It comes from knowing, how to be a somewhat older and wiser, but not infallible friend. It comes from watching in awe the development you have given a start to. Watching and learning in the process.
The feeling of basic safety and self-esteem is the precondition of all real success in life. It makes you a whole person and enables you to give love to another person. It gives you the power to make balanced decisions about your life, to be yourself. It gives you the tools to work for success, if that is, what being yourself means to you. It gives you the power to be mediocre and enjoy it fully, if it does not.
It gives you peace.
