Dean pulls him in close and holds him. Sam is already exhausted and scared, and now he’d just shot his own dad. Dean plans on just letting him cry. But Sam pulls back and wipes his eyes.
“Sorry.”
“Hey, don’t be sorry, man. You did a courageous thing, yeah?”
“I don’t know about that.”
“You did! Look at me, Sammy, please?”
Sam does. He looks up and Dean sees a hollow, vacant expression looking back. It’s gonna be a while, Dean thinks. It scares him for a minute until he remembers something.
“Sam, wait, I wanna show you something.”
He picks up the phone and opens the message. The last line stares at him and Dean types in quickly,
Thanks

Dean frowns and he looks up at Sam. Sam’s turned his head like a curious puppy, wondering what Dean sees. Even though he doesn’t know what’s happening, Sam immediately blames himself for everything all over again. And it’s only adding to Sam’s guilt.
Dean holds up one finger and looks down at his phone.
He dials the number.
This number has been disconnected or is no longer in service.
“Dad?” Dean whispers.
“Dad?” Sam repeats, but his one word question is spoken with true fear. He starts shaking.
Dean nods and Sam closes his eyes.
And Dean’s hands are on him in an instant.
“No, Sam, you don’t understand. This is good. It’s good. He’s going to let us go.”
Sam looks up and his eyes darken.
“No he won’t Dean, He never will. He said.”
Dean kneels down and places his hands softly on Sam’s cheeks.
“Sam. We’re free.” He leans in and places the softest, most gentle kiss he’s ever given. He runs his tongue across Sam’s upper lip, barely grazing the pink skin.
“Dean?” Sam’s voice is barely there.
Dean deepens the kiss and Sam lets out a relieved sob. He grabs his brother and returns the kiss.
Dean doesn’t want to stop. Sam’s hands are already grabbing at his belt and he has to push his brother away.
“Wait, baby. We gotta do this right. I gotta take care of you the right way.”
“I can’t wait, Dean. I’ve been waiting far too long already.” He’s grabbing at Dean’s shirt.
Dean slowly reaches up and grabs Sam’s hand gently, stopping him. He lifts Sam’s fingers to his lips, kissing each finger slowly. Sam gasps at the tenderness.
“Sam (kiss), I hope (kiss) you know (kiss) how (kiss) much I (kiss) love you.”
But Sam’s speechless. His jaw drops a little and Dean smiles.
“Good. So please. Let me do this right. Trust me, ok?”
He lets go of Sam and turns the key.
