Princess Connect season 2 episode 5 is legitimately one of the greatest episodes of anime as a medium and is literally a validation, justification, and example of the absolute zenith of the direction that anime as a visual medium has taken us over the past 2 decades

long sentence so to clarify like. this episode validates and justifies where anime as a visual medium has gone, by which I mean the leaning towards digital techniques and eventually very flashy compositing combined with regular 2D artwork. This episode is the genuine ideal fusion of the two techniques as well as being at the utmost heights of what each of these techniques are on their own, let alone combined. I am not a sakuga nerd and don’t fully know what I mean when I talk about animation, but I don’t think it takes a sakuga nerd to recognise that Priconne s2 and especially this episode are quite literally some of the best produced anime using these techniques.

The fact that it has an insanely gripping plot this episode with incredible emotional moments, airtight pacing and structure that feels like it fits a movie’s worth of content in under 24 minutes, and just generally executing everything it set out to do and beyond so masterfully - somehow that’s the icing on the cake. I can’t remember the last time an anime episode blew me away so thoroughly.
