"i didn't do anything! some girl i've never seen before started yelling at me that i betrayed her or something. knew some really personal shit about me, too."

she stopped admonishing him as soon as he explained the actual situation that held him up. "and you definitely never hook up with this girl or something?" asami just felt like she had to ask, to write off the most obvious conclusion. "do you think there's a stalking issue? it could be worth upgrading your security systems, unless you think she was just crazy."

"heinous," jordan answers, already wincing at the memories of the amount of red ink he'd had to use. he'd tried his hardest, to give as many extra points as he could, or even partial credit, but it was damn near impossible at times. " class average was a 30% before i marked it as a completion assignment. i don't know if i trust the next generation of 'geniuses', sir."

"we are certainly screwed by the time they're in charge. hopefully i'll be dead by then." viktor said, letting a slip of dark humor out around his ta. he sighed, reaching up to rub at his temples for a minute. "do you think i should do extra office hours? will they even show up?" despite his slight disinterest in teaching viktor was willing to be available if he thought people would actually reach out for help, but it was hard for him to feel like the students in the class even cared to try and learn the material.

“that's  a  pretty  nice  way  to  look  at  things.  i  can't  say  i  would  be  so  cool  about  it  if  the  tables  were  turned.”  though  that  was  probably  because  millie  was  quick  to  anger  and  reactions,  wasn't  she?  she  had  never  been  very  good  at  keeping  her  cool.  it  was  something  she  was  working  on.  “yeah?  you  are  right  there.  definitely  better  with  company.”  millie  mused  with  a  smile.  a  soft  chuckle  left  her.  “suuuure.  you  seem  like  the  innocent  type.”  she  teased.  “perform?  now  you've  got  me  intrigued.  what  were  you  offering  to  perform  in  exchange  for  a  drink?”

venti chuckled. "i'm hard to work up, just trying to be around and have a good time, but sometimes some anger is valuable. you have to be able to fight back when it's important." he simply had the benefit of a very long life and an easy going personality leaving him with only a small number of things that actually seemed important enough to fight about. "always. drinking alone is how people get all sad and start moping around the bar. worst case scenario they then find strangers and ruin their night with that personality." venti luckily found that they mostly just got loud. "i'd do a couple of songs for everyone there. i'm a singer. it probably wouldn't have been the best without an instrument to back me up, but some bars do pay for me to perform for actual gigs, so i thought it would have been a pretty fair way to earn a drink."

"that's a lesson ive learned over and over again." rhonda had definitely come to understand that. everything she thought she knew would eventually come to be proven otherwise. and there were many questions she'd been left with. she didn't know what happened to simon, if he would stay that way. what happened to maddy or even any of them. knowing they could sometimes interfere reality despite not being able to for decades. "since i got here i was just alive. I'm not a ghost anymore. i still remember everything obviously. but it's like i had never died in the first place."

"it's one of those things that easy to know but tricky to internalize. obviously people are going to want answers." he couldn't really fault anyone for hunting down an explanation. the fact that he couldn't manage to leave the archives was proof enough that jon wasn't made to leave a problem alone. even after everything martin had told them here they were. "it seems there's something with this place that can alter things for people in a number of ways. i'm inclined to believe that has more to do with washington rather than anything you experienced. it is posisble that if you left the city you'd just return to being a ghost again." not the kindest idea, but one he did feel the need to mention.

"i thought we were your home." charlie can't help the defeated tone in her voice, having always had it in her mind, maybe falsely so, that her friends in the hotel were her family. that the hotel had become a home for all of them, as much as it was for herself. especially angel. he had been with them for longer than anyone else. her closest friend, that wasn't just her girlfriend. "vee tower? you're.. you're not actually living with the vee's over your friends?" something had to be seriously wrong. something that he wasn't telling them. "of course you can be redeemed-- sorry pause, go back.. what do you mean spying?"

'yeah, well, we gave it a nice try for a bit." angel said, giving a shrug as he deflated slightly. he was a little worked up and defensive, but he didn't have the energy to pretend he completely hated being at the hotel while he was. "that's where i lived before. why wouldn't i fucking wind up back there eventually? things make sense for me there." from where he was now it felt like it was an obvious inevitability, one angel couldn't believe he hadn't seen before. he'd actually thought he could stay at that hotel until he was redeemed, or even just hang out with his friends for the rest of his time in hell. how fucking stupid and pathetic that had been. "vox can bring me in and see what i've seen in the hotel, and then wipe my memories of the whole fucking thing charlie! i could be letting him know everything that's going on and not even know it. it's already happened once before." it did make sense that she didn't know. he had just sort of crashed out and disappeared after learning himself, but whatever, it was out there now and maybe that could end this whole stupid argument. "so will you leave it the fuck alone? i'm obviously doing the right thing. maybe you should even be happy. this is the good fucking person choice here instead of just letting myself dick around and hold hands with everyone and risk it all getting back to vox any time i need to go to work."

there was a lot toph felt like she had lost since turning up in washington, but she was determined to find tea that she liked. that much should be possible, even without any benders around. "you're gonna have to tell me what types of tea you have." toph said, as she made it to the counter. "or listen to the list of the ones i like and let me know if there's any overlap, since i can't read a menu." phones had made this a little easier since they could sometimes read things out loud to her, but that had still been a learning process.

orpheus has been in dc for a couple days. this new world is fascinating to him. he's eager to learn more about the city, but he's also scared. it's completely different from his world, and he doesn't quite know how to navigate it. he was sitting on a bench, playing his lyre when he looked up. his eyes widened when he saw eurydice. how was it possible that she was here? but seeing her made his heart feel full. he'd missed her. he has no idea what's going on, but he can only think of her. "eurydice? how are you here? what is this place?"

as confusing and concerning as washington felt at first eurydice had started to get used to it. she could maybe adjust to anything at all if she had to. she had started to accept it as a second prison, though better than her first one, that still made it feel impossible when she saw orpheus in front of her. "orpheus?" she shook her head in disbelief. "what are you doing here?" they were practically just repeating questions to each other. she wasn't sure if she should get too close. she wanted to hold him, to know that he was real, but she wasn't sure if she could handle another trick or trap. "this can't be right. is it actually you?"

"i don't think you're stupid enough for that role. you might not live, but i think you'd get through at least a few kills first." the first one to die was usually a moron, but she didn't think grace had the physical stamina to fully survive in a horror movie. "oh, wow, that's really cool." she's clearly fascinated by the information, her eyes wide as she stares at him. how did you meet him?"

"you're right, the story probably needs to keep me alive to figure out what the monster is and explain it to the audience, and then i'd definitely be dead after. thanks for the confidence boost." grace joked, shaking his head. it's not like he was actually going to take the idea personally. "i was in space, trying to solve some problem with the sun dying. i think he was there for the same reason." which was confusing considering the sun deifnitely wasn't going out here. "my memories of it are a little all over the place, but i definitely remember him."

“…alright, then.” from most, he would refuse to tolerate someone speaking to him that way, but this was a child, barely of age, and had seemingly already been through quite a few shocks in that life. he could respect the boy not wanting to discuss it more than strictly necessary, even if he was rather short about it. “of course. i’ll look into this further.”

"what like an investigation?" he wasn't even sure how that could be done considering they were in some random future city with barely anyone from home to talk to. "i'm sure it has to do with wei wuxian. everything got out of control when he came back to life. i don't know if he's responsible or just pulled along in everything, but he's definitely a part of it."

“huh,  is  everyone  around  here  so…  nice?  i  can't  say  i'm  used  to  it.”  nikki  admitted  with  an  uneasy  chuckle.  sure,  sarah  had  been  nice  but  bear  and  ian?  they  had  only  ever  wanted  things  from  her,  if  she  were  being  honest  now.  whereas  so  far?  everyone  she'd  met  had  been  nothing  but  kind  to  her.  “thanks.  again.”  she  mused,  walking  alongside  the  other.  “nice  to  meet  you  too.  asami  is  a  really  pretty  name.”  nikki  complimented  with  a  small  smile.  “it's…  it's  okay,  really.  i  uh…  i  think  i'm  gonna  be  messed  up  for  a  long  time.  i've  been  through  something  pretty  shitty  and  i  don't  know  how  to  deal  with  it.”

"well if i say it's just me that would sound conceited wouldn't it?" asami said with a light laugh, glad to hear the other woman chuckling, even if it was a little weak. that had to be a sign that she was starting to feel better. "did you move here recently?" she asked, curious. the words made it clear that nikki didn't seem to know washington super well. maybe the experience of moving somewhere new had been difficult for her. "i don't think i have any decent advice, just a lot of potential distractions, though i can come up with a lot of fun ones if you're just trying not to think." that was always asami's strategy anyway. if she didn't let herself stop to breath for too long she couldn't actually get upset about her family or work situation.

"I guess I need to find some sort of faster potion or something. Stolas is here, he probably could help." Blitzo admitted with a soft smile. "Alright, well, we get it. You are a pampered little shit, Fizz." He teased, he couldn't help himself. Being able to be friends with Fizz again and for them to both be in this city, a new place and a new start, at least for Blitzo and Stolas, it was nice. He actually even felt less of an asshole on most days. "You know, you have a point. I get the confidence, honestly, with everything you've been through, i'm glad you came out on top. That's the nicest shit I'll say about you, at least this month." He hummed. "You think? Last time we talked, he wanted to punch me."

"You could hit up one of those gyms and just get into shape." Fizz suggested, knowing it was obnoxious coming from him, a guy that was flexible, but pretty bad at outrunning anything at all. He wasn't the one with a job that required some built up muscle though. "I do some very important well thought out work to earn my lifestyle." Fizzarolli insisted, even though they did sometimes recognize Ozzie would probably let him laze around doing nothing but being a sugar baby if they wanted to, at least until Ozzie got bored. "Noted, come back for a new compliment next month." Fizzarolli said, giving a few serious nods. "I mean it was mostly off of shit I told him about you. I don't think he'll start a fight or anything with you now. It should probably be fine." He said, dismissing it quickly with a wave of his hand.

it really did sound crazy, but ruby wasn't sure if that was a bad thing or not. a crazy explanation, she supposed, was better than no explanation at all. in her mind, she remembered being adopted back home in manchester, and moving to dc when she was still pretty young. nothing in her memory offered any explanation for weird dreams, though she supposed dreams could just be dreams. still, she was willing to hear clara out. "go on then," she finally said, not sure whether or not she'd end up regretting this. could whatever clara said freak her out, would she even believe any of it? "tell me what you know. s'pose it can't hurt."

"well there is a man i know who goes by the doctor, though i'm fairly certain he hasn't done the school work to earn the title." clara said, shaking her head. she probably should be a little more positive about him, considering she was trying to help here. making the doctor sound insane probably wouldn't help her case. "he's an alien himself, even though he looks like us, and he's got a time machine and a bad habit of picking of strays to take around on adventures through space. my best guess is you knew him, maybe traveled with him, and forgot somehow." she said simple and blunt. "when you have these dreams have you ever seen a old timey police telephone box?"

"you don't want to use that." toph said, semi-turned towards the stranger heading towards the machine at the gym. she was pretty sure it was a regular here, at least toph had definitely noticed her once or twice before. "the guy before you didn't wipe it down at all, and he was doing reps on it for like, twenty minutes. his sweat is probably soaked in there by now." honestly toph didn't care about the mess of it herself, but knew it was something nearly everyone else got grossed out by.

"I haven't even seen Beth but we're probably both happier that way." Though if Beth didn't have memories she could just run around like everything was fine. She at least deserved that more than Mike. "Anyone know how this memory shit or is it just like random and uncontrollable?"

"not knowing what's there is half your problem, you know that, right? studying is impossible when you can't find anything, and you don't even know if you have everything you need." she sighs, already shuffling through the papers in her hands and trying to organize them somewhat. "understanding all of this makes diagnosing more specific things easier. there's some diseases that share symptoms, you know."

"but if i just get rid of stuff i may lose something important." he said, managing to stay only mildly irritated. "it's not like there's an obvious list of what i need to memorize and what the professor is saying just to hear his own voice." jin ling had of course decided he didn't like the teacher currently making his life difficult. "we didn't know any of this shit back home and people still got by. maybe someone was cursed now and then, but i don't think modern biology would have helped."
