"Yeah, Ashley also have her memories just like Hannah and Sam. I think just Mike and Beth that doesn't remember" Chris says with a shrug.
"I haven't even seen Beth but we're probably both happier that way." Though if Beth didn't have memories she could just run around like everything was fine. She at least deserved that more than Mike. "Anyone know how this memory shit or is it just like random and uncontrollable?"
"not knowing what's there is half your problem, you know that, right? studying is impossible when you can't find anything, and you don't even know if you have everything you need." she sighs, already shuffling through the papers in her hands and trying to organize them somewhat. "understanding all of this makes diagnosing more specific things easier. there's some diseases that share symptoms, you know."
"but if i just get rid of stuff i may lose something important." he said, managing to stay only mildly irritated. "it's not like there's an obvious list of what i need to memorize and what the professor is saying just to hear his own voice." jin ling had of course decided he didn't like the teacher currently making his life difficult. "we didn't know any of this shit back home and people still got by. maybe someone was cursed now and then, but i don't think modern biology would have helped."

blair glanced up once, and instantly regretted it. of course that person had been staring at her, blair had ghosted them without warning a year or so back. she slid her hand over her face, lips pressed together and head shaking. "oh shit, no. definitely not a friend."
"right, okay, so why are they totally definitely staring at you then?" glinda said, smart enough not to make her own glances obvious. "are we trying to ignore this person or like, start a fight?" she might not be good in a physical fight, but she could hopefully be rude enough to get the guy to go away.
"it's understandable. you can't help that people left the place in chaos. besides, it doesn't happen all the time." jem truly doesn't mind waiting for tessa, or helping her. he laughs when she suggests running out of there. "i am fine with that. l am excited to hang out with you. it's been quite a long day, and i have been looking forward to our time together."
"usually i manage to hide in the stacks somewhere when it does happen." tessa admitted with a chuckle. she was a decent enough employee, great at finding people something to read, but she mostly like the chance to read on the job that she got from being at the library. 'great, we'll definitely go then." she said, quickly grabbing her bag. "how are you feeling jem?" tessa asked seriously as they walked out. "i didn't want to plan too much without knowing." she'd purposely left their options open so they could keep things as calm as he needed them to be.

" yes , i'm joking. " it's simply confirmation , smooth around the edges. morgan knows that her humor doesn't always read as such. after all , humor does have a lot of uses , so it can sometimes get muddled in practice. " but really , you're going to let me in , right ? " she really should get into the habit of letting people know when she's planning on stopping by , but she hopes that the containers of food will make up for her unannounced visit. she lifts the bags slightly to point out their presence. "as long as you don't make any comments about how neat the place is. i can't be blamed when i wasn't expecting company." he could at least kick some of his laundry under a chair, but grace knew everything was disorganized right now and he usually had it at least a little more clean if morgan was over. "what kind of takeout do you have?" he asked, eyeing the bag. "because i had some pretty gourmet frozen meal ready to be introduced to my microwave so that will be hard to beat." grace joked.
“oh, you humans come up with the such fun things to do.” the doctor flashes him a smile. “however, this is not a costume. this is my outfit.” he leads them down to the sidewalk, assuming the stranger is keeping pace. while he might not be able to get the ship to fly, he still can manage to show of the beauty of the tardis. something about little wins here and there. “a teacher, lovely! my companion is a teacher too. maybe you work at the same school. well, i’d conject you took a spaceship. not like mine, but whatever suffices in this century to get to space.” the doctor stops just shy of the tardis. “it is pretty cool. aliens are very real. suppose i'm considered one. right, well, here she is. you can step inside.”
"right. hey, you're not like a crazy guy who's leading me out to his fake spaceship to kill me right?" grace didn't really believe that, if he did he would have just turned around and left, ran away without asking anything, but things were odd enough that he did want to double check. "oh cool, and your companion, is that like a relationship thing or a travel in space thing?" he'd like to know if this companion was also a weirder before potentially seeking them out. grace stopped outside of the so called tardis, face contorting into obvious disbelief and concern. "so, just to be clear about what's happening here, you and i are both going to step inside of a police telephone box-" which, what was a british old telephone box even doing here? "in order to see your space ship? that's what you're going with."
phillip didn't know very much about photographs in general, having come from a time several years before the first camera was invented. the only images he was familiar with were paintings, and illustrations in the books he read. there mere idea of taking a photograph was fascinating to him, but the concept of something appearing in the gallery instantly had him widening his eyes. even just looking at the pictures of cats and flowers she'd taken was fascinating to him, for it was all brand new. "how incredible..." he breathed, as he watched inej scroll through more pictures than he'd ever seen in his life. "that would be most wonderful. i have always been into botany myself, perhaps we could take some pictures of flowers?"
"sure, of course.." inej said, offering a small smile. it was always easier, with someone who was just as uncomfortable with the modern technology as she was, and now that she felt a little less silly about her saved photographs she could focus on actually helping the man. "we should probably do it on your phone. then you'll have some flowers saved for your first pictures. i don't actually know much about flowers, so if there's any specific ones you want you'll have to find them." she had always just taken pictures of whatever she found visibly appealing. "and then you have to go to the camera app. it looks like this." she said, gesturing to the icon on her own phone and waiting for him to catch up.
Kaz leans on his cane -- then furrowing his brows. He didn't know what to make of this, of this person seemingly knowing him. She seemed familiar, yes, but maybe they had just seen each other within the city before. "I... I don't know," He replies, not knowing what else to say. "I feel that you are familiar to me, but..." He shrugs his shoulders. "I do not understand it."
"I don't really have an explanation either." Inej said. She wanted to hide the fact. Kaz might have been more compelled to stick around her if he thought there were answers only she had, but there was so little she could come up with about how this city worked that it wasn't worth trying to drag him around like that. "And any explanation I can try to give will sound ridiculous. Do you even know about Ketterdam?"
alina's brows furrowed at the other. “i'm sorry but… you can't say something like that and then… not elaborate further.” they muttered, clearing their throat. “as complicated as it might be… i think i deserve to know.” she had thought the other looked familiar but how could alina just forget a person? maybe complicated was an understatement. “please. just… just tell me.” alina pleaded.
"it's not like we knew each other well. i'm sure you have a friend that would be able to explain better than me." inej said, more of a reassurance than anything. when this all inevitably sounded crazy maybe there would be some comfort in the fact that inej was pretty separated from alina. "we knew each other back home, in a place called kerch. we worked together once." just briefly. "this place, sometimes people forget who they are. you aren't the first person i've found from home who doesn't remember it."
malcolm appreciated the other's honesty. even if he felt like it wasn't needed. though it showed character that the other was so forthcoming. he wondered what it was that made others not want to work with him. "ah, i see. well, i doubt i'll be having that problem. i guess you could say that my coworkers used to think of me a bit ... eccentric i suppose. but despite the...unconventional tactics, i always get answers."
"see well then we have another concern." will said, managing to crack a small grin. all things considered malcolm didn't seem awful, not like some of the other people he'd worked with. "i've also been told my way of bringing in criminals isn't exactly standard. i don't know what your deal is but we might wind up freaking out all of the dc law enforcement." though maybe it was better that they worked together then, rather than pull some poor normal person into the mix.
"i thought we had established that we do not have a proper therapist and patient relationship. something we should likely maintain if you would like any hope of getting me to go fishing." because just about the only way he would even consider participating in such an activity would be for will's sake, and even then, he doubts he would last very long. "there must be some in between for you, to figure out a balance."
"i'm mostly just trying to see what you find to be wearable fishing gear." will specified. "i'm not actually sure whether it will be interesting to watch you try and fish." he really wasn't sure whether or not doctor lecter would be any good at it after all. it was almost easier to imagine the man trudging out and catching a fish with his bare hands than doing it properly. "maybe. i have just given advice from my office in the past, but it's faster if i get in there and actually use this empathy for some good. anyway, i've already agreed to help, so you'll just have to hear how it goes."
"You're right. Having hope is important." Kathryn replied with a soft sigh escaping her nose. They were unsure if anyone would end up coming here to meet her. A part of her hoped they wouldn't come because then they'd be stuck here, just like her, but she also missed them. She missed her best friend, her Number One, and the rest of her crew. They shook the negative thoughts out of their head. Grace was right. They couldn't mope around forever. "We're technically a couple of those assholes, you know." Kathryn retorted, giggling. "I do appreciate you putting in a word, though. I'll start setting up my resume and sending it out too."
"I'm sure you've got a group of friends out hunting for you right now." Grace couldn't say the same, but honestly he wasn't rushing to get out of Washington. He was out of space and the sun was seemingly okay. He could almost right off his blurry memories as some mass hallucination. His biggest problem was that if Rocky was truly out there in space he wanted to be sure the alien was alright. "Hey, I like to think I've given up on my days of being an arrogant jerk. It works better when you're fresh out of college. I can handle idiots a little bit better now." Grace definitely got in less arguments anyway, though that may have just been because he avoided people. "Though the fights for the good coffee can be intense in the teacher break room, so maybe it's good to still have a bit of an attitude."
yeah, mike's definitely pissed her off somehow, that much is evident, but he still can't seem to place her face from anywhere. she seems somewhat familiar, but - nope, nothing. " no. zero recognition. not even a sense, " he repeats, trying to make it clear he has no idea who she is. frankly, he's wishing she eventually just tells him to fuck off and call it a day, because as far as he's concerned, she's got the wrong guy. yes, she knows his name, but mike's a generic ass name. at least, that's what he's trying to tell himself. but something in the way she's talking and acting leaves him wondering if he literally just can't remember her. " look, i don't know you. if we met at a party or something, sorry, a couple of beers in and everything ends up being a fucking blur. "
she was starting to worry, just a little bit, as he continued to look at her without any sense of recognition. "did you fucking concuss yourself recently or some shit? what are you talking about?" she would think that he was just trying to get her to fuck off, but emily didn't consider mike a very convincing liar. sure, if he wanted to sneak off with another girl or something he could probably pull it off, but this was so batshit insane that it almost made her think he was serious. "it's emily. you've known me for years. you know, along with jess, sam, chris, josh, all those little shits. seriously mike, if you're messing with me i'm actually going to freak the fuck out." she was going to have had a problem to begin with, but now he seemed to want to dig the whole even deeper for no good reason.
“i suppose looking at it from that angle, i see your point.” the desire for freedom seemed to be a common trait among mortals, fearing being trapped a shared experience. and they could understand why, that feeling of helplessness was something they never wanted to repeat. “i don’t know how friendly it’ll be when the competitors are mortals fighting for their lives.” than replies with a smirk. but really, it wouldn’t be much of a competition for him either, with most mortals. there were exceptions among the shades, obviously, but most wouldn’t be much of a contest for the prince at all. “that would complicate them a bit, yes. though it might be a new interesting twist.”
"i think almost anyone can soften up a little for a good fight. i'm sure some of them would be happy to have a light competition in the underworld." and no matter how they felt about it nothing could be worse than having to fight with theseus. "i think we'd still clean things up well and then just have some mortals gawking at us afterwards, unless you think any of them are impressive enough to actually hold their own with you and i in the competition. if you've met mortals like that i definitely want an introduction."
"Oh no, it's where you watch funny videos but it's like only a couple minutes." Steven explained, giving a nod. "we should make you an account on your phone, i think you'd like it." they admitted. "as much as i enjoy singing with you and the others, nah. i don't think i am the muscian type. it's not so bad, actually. you would be surprised how much the gem training actually helps with school."
"You can put it on my phone if you'd like, but you'll have to show me how to use it. Maybe I'll understand the jokes some of the kids I see make." Probably not though. Pearl often found any human humor confusing. It had gotten better since she started socializing with them more, but she knew she was still very behind. "Well hopefully you'll still perform with us or your dad now and then. It's always so much fun when you do." Honestly though Pearl could be talked into just about any activity that Steven wanted to do. "What sorts of things have you been learning about?"
"Ah, that's true. I suppose I hadn't considered that." Roger replied with a contemplative nod. A hand came up to his chin, stroking it slightly in thought. "Unfortunately, I'm no scientist, but I think we could manage water sampling and collecting anecdotes." Roger dropped his hand, and placed both on his waist. "We could start with the water in my apartment. I'm certain I have missing memories, myself."
"I'm not much of a scientist either but I passed all of my classes well enough. I know how an experiment should be set up." He also knew there was no way they'd actually follow all of those rules but they could at least try to stick close. "The biggest thing I'll have to figure out is what we need to actually test the water content. I'm not quite sure what sort of thing we'd be looking for in there." He knew water contamination was a thing, but what exactly caused it was outside of Jon's knowledge. "But I know we'll want a sample from your apartment and some from someone with completely intact memories so that we're able to compare."
"Don't they say as well that if you delete something it's not truly gone? So someone could still find it. How twisted is that? No thank you. Prefer things that can actually be erased or destroyed." He shivered at the thought of a contract still lingering somewhere and somehow even if deleted. "Same for myself. I can pick pretyt much any lock except now these high tech ones. Completely twisted. I know they are safer realistically but I spent my life developing my skills." He wanted to ensure that he still could. He didn't intend to go break into everything. Just knowing he could if he needed to. "Not this but I've seen... Gods destroying worlds, cities...On this scale but different." Shivers went down his spine at the memory of the gods. Of everything they went through and saw. "I've met some people here but no, no one from home. Glad you have some who have made it with you. It is always a relief."
"I've heard the same. I'm not looking to leave a large trace of myself all over the phones or the internet or whatever they call it." She wasn't entirely sure how separate the cell phone was from the internet, even though she knew one seemed to be more connected to the computers everyone used in cafes or the library. Inej herself hadn't bothered buying or stealing on for herself yet. "I'm sure they're still breakable. Every lock can be opened. It's just something new to learn." Kaz would be able to figure it out faster than her, but she was certain this man could also break a new lock down if he just got one to work on. "I'm glad we're not on any sort of destruction then." There were only so many problems she could juggle at once. "It's nice to have them. but there are other issues. This city messes with people's heads. One of my friends has forgotten me entirely and thinks he lives here." And it wasn't just Wylan, somehow it had happened to the sun summoner as well.
