THE KING AD-ROCK -- STILL KING OF THE NAME-DROPS IN '90s HIP-HOP.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on a promo Ad-Rock poster of the BEASTIE BOYS, from the September 1998 issue of "Spin" Magazine. Also featured here are late, greats dub reggae icon Lee "Scratch" Perry (✝) and American underground cartoonist Vaughn Bodē (✝). God rest them both.

"Well, I'm like Lee Perry, I'm very on Rock the microphone, and then I'm gone I'm like Vaughn Bodē, I'm a Cheech Wizard, Never quittin', so won't you listen!"

here's one to go under 'popular songs you didn't know were actually covers'. far more chill and lax (but that's not to say it's boring) than the clash's interpretation of it, junior murvin's 'police and thieves' is a dubby tune. what shines most about it is murvin's wonderful, high voice - he's no joe strummer, to say the least. not to put down the clash, but i often find myself listening to this original version more often than the other, actually! and that's just because it sounds better on the ears: heavy, lulling bass that's a dub trademark, and of course the aforementioned elements, this track certainly puts me in a spell.
