that's an interesting direction to explore how they would navigate being judged and perceived by others who don't understand that their "problematic" age gap isn't what it quite is!
With the examples you provided, their unique situation (mostly Conan's unique situation) would be kind of... isolating-- as in, if Conan never tells anyone about Shinichi and buries him, then he and Kaito will be the only ones in the world who can understand each other and their relationship. I can see they'd just start closing themselves off to everyone else, and just up and move elsewhere. Which is sad... a nice potential for angst for sure.
but while there's a lot of angst potential, I actually like to think it's a non-problem, as both Conan and Kaito are very good at keeping secrets. The others (Ran/ Detective Boys/ Hakuba) would find out Conan = Shinichi and Kaito = Kid a lot sooner than the fact they're dating each other. 🤭
or alternatively, in my yaoi delulu land, it really is a non problem, and people are happy for them-- especially for Conan/Shinichi, bc being 10 years younger than he actually is can really set someone back lol.
I do like low doses of reality, as in Conan being afraid that if they went public, the news would jeopardize Kaito's career; as well as the fact that despite them both being the same mental age, they're at different life stages (school vs career). But hmmmm, I guess it depends on the focus of the story (?). If the story solely focuses on people pitchforking Kaito for being a cradle robber, and has Conan being babied & warned about chasing older men--- I think that's a bit too much of a high dose reality for me. ^v^;
I read Cinders new chapter and let me say I am kicking my feet. These two are so adorable together, even when they denied their feelings or they are unaware of those feelings for each other. Each chapter is so unique and well-done that it just makes me wonder: what inspired you to create this story? How did you come up with this idea? That’s all and thanks for this marvelous story!

to answer your question... since you asked, I'm yapping a lot!! ->
So the simple explanation was that we wanted an medieval isekai-ish kind of vibes for an au. That's p much it; we thought it'd be fun as an au. ^0^
Then we sat down to figure out how to translate modern characters (kai/shin) into that world.
If you dilute the characters to their... essence? Shinichi was rather easy--- he liked mystery and had a sense of justice, propiety, and penchant to sorta~~~ follow the status quo. Fiercely independent, sometimes reckless, has a hero complex. So translating him into the role of a knight was fairly simple.
Kaito on the other hand, was a bit more difficult to nail down. Though having him be a thief of some sort seemed like an easy pick, I think what makes him compelling to me is his duality of a character. On one hand, he's a jokester, exceptionally brilliant, lackadaisical without much respect toward authority. on the other hand, he has a more somber & serious side, he keeps secrets, he's a lone wolf with few friends, he follows his own moral compass in which sometimes the means to the end is shady at best. He knows what he's doing/has done is wrong, but he also believes in the conviction that it's necessary as he pursues his own brand of justice.
That said, Kaito's role in the story was a lot more flexible. :3c I read a bunch of stories where one of the charas was a prince--- and I did have a few people guessing Kaito was a prince, but I wanted them to "travel together as forced companions", and princes usually can't do that, they're too important and have responsibilities. ^_T! So making him a hooligan was the best way to go about it ^0^
tbh my writing is a lot more character/relationship centric rather than world-centric, so my worldbuilding is shoddy ^_T;;; so even the way I structure arcs are more character/relationship driven.
Their emotional journey goes as follows-->
Strangers who got off on the wrong foot: mostly on Shinichi's side since he just freshly turned into Conan and his pride is... still his downfall.
Coerced travel companions with pre-existing prejudices toward one another: Shinichi's distaste for someone as wishywashy/carefree as Kaito, and Kaito's disgust towards stuck up, pretentious assholes.
Begrudgingly admit each other's strengths/weaknesses: walls start to come down, they're begrudgingly accepting that "huh, perhaps your skillset/ your outlook makes you different from the others." By being together, their world view opens up a bit more?
and then in the 2nd arc, Kaito's past & fear of it being judged by Shinichi begins rearing its head. At this point Kaito's developed a pretty solid sense of respect for Shinichi who pursued justice to help those who can't help themselves. But Kaito's afraid his past & wrongdoings may change the way Shinichi sees him. It's a case fic, but it forces out a lot of uh... unresolved past, and challenges them on how they would deal with such a hopeless situation with the circumstance that they were given.
Kaito p much falls in love at this point, and dedicates his life (?) to him lol.
current arc: it's Shinichi's turn to get emotionally battered, where his walls get taken down and he has to confront his own past now. :3 and in doing so, he opens up to Kaito and finds emotional security and safety with him. so much so he trips his way into love, BUT WAIT--- Shinichi has his own hangups about how he views himself, so if he wants to woo Kaito, he's gotta work hard to show him how capable he is.
Which leads to: Shinichi unintentionally pushing Kaito away in a show of "I'm independent, I don't always need you to watch me," which conflicts with Kaito's: "I'm overprotective, because I care about you." and shit goes down, and more shit goes down, /vaguely gestures to the next arc after this.
And then they finally confess feelings and kiss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <- but ofc, no relationship is smooth sailing, so maybe more shit goes down afterwards. yay.
since I center around ks developing relationship & them going through... I guess character growth, the arcs & cases tend to center around that
... oh yeah! I also seem to have this narrative kink--- or a theme I'm very drawn to which is: adults failing their children in some way, and how the children (grown-up or not) are forced to take matters into their hand, and either parent themselves or deal with the consequences of the irresponsible adults around them.
it's a theme in life that hits close to home, and while I'm sure good parents exist in the world, and I'm happy for those who have loving parents-- I suppose it's a sort of tragedy that I like to explore in writing ^q^;;
(don't get me started on ks' parents bc............................................yeah. I know they're fictional, but I'm allowed to feel distaste toward the way they're depicted. It's why they're nonexistence in cinders, bc them being long passed is better than if they were alive. <_>;; sorry;)

As for your questions, I'll do my best to pick my brains to answer:
Is there like some kind of percentage? Like for example ca. 60% are Betas, ca. 20% are Alphas and ca.20% are Omegas?
I didn't think too far about this, but that percentage sounds about right! A/O's being rare, but not too rare that people haven't heard of them, but rare enough that it's a surprise to find out someone close to you is one!
And it sounded a bit like that Alpha and omegas bonds/relationships are getting romanticised but are there some other stigmas and discrimination because of gender is the norm?
I think Betas romanticize the bond, pretty much thinking it's similar to being soulmates! Betas don't understand what they can't understand... they know of heats/ruts from textbooks/schools, but I'd like to think A/O's have enough willpower to control themselves to a degree and move elsewhere so that betas don't get subjected to being an unwilling voyeur. Definitely the general majority don't care/ are not affected by the secondary gender. (and I'm sure there's a department/laws that specifically handle a/o cases since they require more nuanced understanding.)
In the end, I think in this world, only A/O's understand each other and themselves, and have stigmas against the other. (Re: Kid's opinion about an omega's pheremones being annoying; in a similar vein, an omega might have prejudice against alphas--- "they just take what they want without any care")
In one of the comics, where Shinichi made a comment that compared Kaito with a dog or something and Shinichi was wearing a collar with a nice blue tear drop stone/gem thing, is that something that happens in your universe, that Omegas are wearing collar to protect their neck/or show off that they are bonded (like wedding rings) or something like that?

All right, so I had this evil idea behind that small comic where Shinichi runs off and Kaito catches him to discipline him. coughcough. Shinichi somehow has the wrong idea that cus he's already marked, he'd be safe from other alphas (esp criminal ones). BUT THAT ISNT THE CASE, DUMB BOY!!! Another alpha can bite over the bondmark and overwrite the original. It's really uncomfortable, very painful, it would leave his body searing in pain or heat or whatever for days.
<-- Shinichi is unscathed the first time bc Kaito catches him and scolds him (disciplines him), but learning about how to break the bond sits in his mind. Shinichi considers breaking the bond it if it means freeing Kaito. >:3c (what Shinichi failed to take into account is that Kaito would just bite him again, even if it's painful for Shinichi, Kaito's gotta have his meitantei, yknow? atp, he doesn't care anymore even if he has to lock him up and fuck him senseless fufu.)
Anyways, Shinichi gets really reckless, and manages to catch an alpha criminal and forces him to bite over the mark-- but who cares. the criminal will be going to jail in the end, Shinichi is 'bonded' to someone who won't be out for life, Kaito is free to live his life. (reminder: Shinichi does not realize Kaito will just bite him again lmao. Toxic yaoi sex with lots of crying and pain, and possession and Kaito just chaining him up so he can never leave again. yay.)
<- this direction is extreme btw, so you can ignore it haha! I just like the idea that Shinichi willingly walks into mobrape with resolution that he's doing it for a good reason (freeing Kaito.) My pure little heart desires Shinichi to self-sabotage and get put in situations (pissing Kaito off and unlocking yandere route). Toxic yay ya ya yaya.
In your description(you said that Shinichi didn't get the bodyparts to be an Omega, just the heats) it sounded that Omegas all have a body that makes it possible to get pregnant, I imagine that means one can specify what genders a person has at birth?
I wrote a small blurb from the dj I was planning to draw for this. Haibara explaining the whole thing:
"Secondary sexuality is not hereditary, It's possible for alphas and omegas to be born from a beta lineage, and betas to be born from parents who are of the minority. However it seems that the second gender has already been determined since birth, which develops slowly until they present later in their teens. From the results, the apotoxin must have reset your secondary sexuality, and altered it to one of an omega’s, but your body is already fully developed into a beta."
You should play loosely with this idea though! Maybe he can get pregnant...!!! get bred, boy. >:) but even if he can't get pregnant, they can have their 2-month long breeding session. ^^ anything is possible... in the realm of fiction~
And the last question I can think about, is there any character that you would love to see/imagine as a certain second gender?
Not really! My main focus is usually on ks haha, so I don't have much interest in other pairs! ^^; Though I do end up using another fandom pair-- but mostly the omega. The omega served the purpose of whisking Shinichi aside being like: You are in Delirious Heat, what the fuck are you doing out in pblic??
And being the experienced omega, they give Shinichi a quick run down on how to survive without his alpha (Kid) and get through his heat alone: "here's lube, some books to read up on the biology of second genders, and here's a blazing pink dildo, you can thank me later."
But basically that's it. ^^!!

hi, gonna soapbox for a second, cus I saw a new blog that I don't condone in the ship tag.
it's so easy to spread hate agenda behind anon. It's also easy to start ship discourse behind anon. I'd prefer if people come out and say their piece on their own blogs, since that means they take accountability for what they say.
I just want to kindly remind others that contributing to ship discourse in this manner, whether bashing on the ship or defending it, does nothing. There is no great fictional ship war that you're contributing to or fighting against. I'm sure the hate feels good to get off your chest, but I'm sorry to say, this negativity doesn't benefit anyone.
Take that energy to create something instead.
I've long blocked the blog so I don't need to see it whenever someone bashes my ship or even defends it. I encourage others to do the same, for a better peace of mind.
