hi! this is just one of the ways I color:
Explanation under read more ->
Fill the character up with a base color-- I tend to like using the base skin color for this.
Make a clipped layer on top of the base color: use a darker color for skin. The brush I'm using is a blendy brush that blends according to pen pressure. If you see the red lines on Shinichi, I use this brush to darken the shadows that are under his hair, on his neck, etc.
New clipped layer: base hair color.
There are 3 colors here: the base skin color, the base hair color, and darker hair color. Using pen pressure, I swipe up and down to mix these colors together to create hair strands!
New clipped layer: his shirt. I used a light purple color and you can see that I dragged the color over the base skin color.
Similar to coloring hair, I have 3 colors: base skin color (which is the highlights), base object color (light purple), darker shadow color (the darker purple.
do the same thing I did in step 4, color the dark purple layers where the shadows fall.
rinse and repeat for every object on the character!
There is a lot of different ways to color, but I think lighting knowledge and such does come with practice, over many years. One way to kind of get better is by studying people's arts and training your eyes to see how they apply highlights & shadows, and their colors! ^0^

Hello~! I do! :3c A lot of my hc can contradict because I love to explore different dynamics, and I think au's are neat, but here are some of the constants that I have ->
Kaito
a gotdamn loser
has low-worth (if you give him time to think, he will question his entire life, so he doesn't give himself time to think) + a lot of confidence in his skills (commits to the bit; becoming the mask he's pretending to be is srs bznz.)
tsundere
his poker face is so good that it's creepy sometimes; he'd be smiling but he's actually angry/annoyed/ etc.
he feels guilty! for being selfish, but he'll take it anyways! He'll keep lying to people around him, feel bad, but still do it because his desires far outweigh what he feels (and that self loathing feeds to his low self worth)
gets played like a fiddle, knows that he's getting played, but he is powerless against the face of the detective, and he gives up control by choice because what other option does he have
Shinichi
buttslut (affectionate) ; I love confident, sexy Shinichi who oozes lots of sex appeal and isn't afraid to get what he wants, bc go get ur boy!! whenever i draw him (even in pg pictures), I usually have this in mind, his sex appeal must ooze out of every corner... he has a hot piece of ass and knows it.
when he's not slutting his butt out, I like him earnest & oblivious
very assure of himself; he has strong convictions and beliefs.
also think he's cute when he's earnest, but also dishonest with himself, but that won't stop him from trying to communicate (blushy blusy Shinichi is cute to me too..) (does this make sense? I have no idea...)
I do love Kid's persona too, so I like the classic suave gentleman x oblivious & flustered detective every now and then, but for me, I love kicking Kaito down with the feels and putting him situations. What can I say, it's my jam and butter.
Kaito fighting his inner demons/urgers while Shinichi knows exactly what he wants and is done waiting for Kaito to fight his inner battles, so he swoops in and knocks away any doubts & insecurities. ^^
mrrr mrr im sure there are more that gets reflected in my art/fics, but this is all the tangible stuff I can think of in my head.
an idea that stemmed from @lmeg9 's Knight's Covenant, there was a line that mentioned Kaito being picked off the slums when he was young. This is a sort of prequel delulu of sorts, where Shinichi being the precocious bratty prince just wants a friend, but goes about it utterly the wrong way.

Conan was grateful for his highness’ concerns— really. Perhaps the crown prince thought that he would benefit from having a confidante… or two.
But why would Hakuba send an underqualified knight to serve as his guard when he didn’t need one at the academy in the first place? A nanny— somewhat made sense.
But a guard?
He already had Kaito— capable, keen, and unexpectedly earnest Kaito.
Things were just simpler when it had just been the two of them.
Hi!! This is so random but I felt weirdly compelled to thank you for continuing to post Kaishin?? To be completely honest with you, I only got into the ship when the """cousins""" reveal happened because of the Doomed Yaoi of April 2024 memes and I, who knew only that Detective Conan featured a boy who used lots of gadgets and literally nothing else, got curious because I had never even fathomed that there was such a vibrant fandom and compelling story (and ship!) that would result in the tragedy that occured with the reveal.
Well, I kinda fell down into a rabbit hole with my "research" and have come out of it absolutely enamored with Kaishin and both Shinichi and Kaito as characters, haha. I'll admit to you that I haven't properly watched or read the original media (I'm intimidated by the sheer volume of stuff to get through), unless we count me watching a truly embarrassing amount of gacha react videos trying to get an idea of what the show was like. I know it's sometimes controversial for people to ship something when they aren't fans of the original media, but I can at least say I truly love and adore the way that Kaishin fans interact with the world and characters and I have spent So Much Time trying to get to know them, learning to differentiate between canon vs fanon, reading different character analyses or movie/episode/arc breakdowns and analyses, and throughouly enjoying the fanworks.
I'm honestly quite sad I didn't find DCMK sooner, and Kaishin as well!! I was taken aback, even before I knew the details of the ship, that so many people were now abandoning it. Everyone has different comfort levels and again, I am a newcomer, but even before I understood what was going on and only knew "apparently cousins, revealed ~30 years after the story started, the characters did look similar but it seemed like it was an artistic choice", I was like "well it's tragic but...that's not gonna stop anyone" and then it kinda did, which took me aback. I think I'm used to older fandoms and older ship fans almost unanimously ignoring new canon they don't like or agree with so I felt pretty bad for the Kaishin fans when the in-fighting began.
Anyway, I'm not blaming anyone for stopping, people can do what they want, but you can imagine it was a little awkward finding a ship purely because it was basically being mass-cancelled, looking into said ship with mild curiosity, and, after finding it extremely compelling, going "I don't give a damn about the canon DNA, this ship is amazing and its fans are right and honestly I ship it too now. I'm sure everything will be fine and--oh hm people are now claiming they won't write anymore or draw anymore ship stuff...and they're condemning others...oh yikes..."
(I am sure it was much worse for long term fans who had to watch their community become even more polarized).
But I have been very happy to see you (and other people on Tumblr) continuing to post Kaishin! I'm a huge supporter of 'Ship and Let Ship' and I'm glad you and other shippers have continued to participate in the fandom, as even a new fan like me can still enjoy it post-calamity. And lowkey I think it proves that this is such a great duo (romantically, not just platonically) that someone who was completely out of the loop and had no background with the media or skin in the game like me was able to be like "Oh yeah I get it, this isn't even a stretch or delusional, I Understand"
All that to say, again, thank you for continuing to post this ship! Your blog has been such a huge source of joy for me since I got into the fandom, and your art is so so so beautiful and lovely and just amazing :) sorry for the ramble!!

RE: getting into the ship after the "cousins reveal" and not feeling like a legitimate fan, due to not consuming the original media, etc.
I feel that no matter when or how you were introduced to the ship, it doesn't make you any less legitimate as a real fan. ^^ As long as you like it and enjoy it, it doesn't matter when you came in or how you came in, you're as fan of a fan as I am~! No shame in saying that you were only intrigued because of the "incident," that's fine! Welcome welcome to the party. :3 Glad you're here!
RE: People abandoning the ship because of the controversy
Like you mentioned, if previous fans are abandoning the ship due to their morality reasons, that's fine, it's as valid as people leaving because some shiny new thing popped up on their feed. My ick with that is the moral posturing ex-fans have, and how they look back at their fellow ks shippers with an air of moral superiority. Like, my dude, it's okay if you feel the ick, don't push that on the rest of us. And if you're leaving because of it--- on god, please go. Go take your moral superiority elsewhere, I'm just playing with the dollies here.;; It really isn't that serious. Live and let ship~
My real disappointment (and what I consider the real tradgedy) with the reveal isn't actually about ks being related for incest reasons. (they're both dudes, incest doesn't matter if they can't procreate, and even if they can--- they are fictional…) Anyways, my disappointment was the fact that 1) touichi being dead is crucial to Kid's whole reason for existing and 2) kind of recontextualizes the fun rivalry that yuusaku & touichi had when they first met as… long lost sibling banter? I honestly thought it was a neat thing to have ks' dad being rivals and their sons continuing the legacy in a way. It would've been more compelling if they were strangers to begin with, but alas, the storytelling failed there. and oh wells, that's what delulus are for-- to dream of a story that won't happen in canon. ^^
All that to say, it's totally fine to have come across it "post-calamity" haha! I'm glad you're here!
I only feel a great disdain towards people I call tourists--- the kind of people who have heard of what happened and came to jeer/pity us ks fans, even when we're doing absolutely fine in our corner. After the 20th time, it can be obnoxious seeing someone who doesn't ship ks come in and say smth along the lines of: I feel so sorry for ks shippers, xyz, xyz.
in which my reaction is: first of all, I'm totally fine and drawing beans boinking around, idk what you're doing with your life, but good day to you too. >_>
Anyways, thanks for coming around and being respectful! :3 This ship has been around for a long long time, that at this point it's fine to not even be into the original media anymore (it's been running for 30+ years…) And I daresay the characters are ours to kidnap.
