How to Adjust Power Supply using Voltage Regulator
A 7805 is a popular voltage regulator IC that can be used in a variety of electronic projects. Here's a simple DIY 7805 project that you can try:
Components needed:
7805 voltage regulator IC
2 x 100nF capacitors
1 x 10uF capacitor
1 x 1kΩ potentiometer
1 x heat sink
1 x DC power supply or battery
Breadboard
Jumper wires
Instructions:
Insert the 7805 voltage regulator IC into the breadboard.
Connect the input pin (pin 1) of the 7805 to the positive terminal of the DC power supply or battery.
Connect the output pin (pin 3) of the 7805 to the breadboard.
Connect a 100nF capacitor between pin 1 (input) and pin 2 (ground) of the 7805.
Connect a 10uF capacitor between pin 2 (ground) and pin 3 (output) of the 7805.
Connect the middle pin of the potentiometer to pin 2 (ground) of the 7805.
Connect one of the outer pins of the potentiometer to the positive terminal of the DC power supply or battery.
Connect the other outer pin of the potentiometer to the breadboard.
Connect a 100nF capacitor between the outer pin of the potentiometer and pin 2 (ground) of the 7805.
Attach a heat sink to the 7805 voltage regulator IC to dissipate heat.
Once the circuit is complete, you can adjust the potentiometer to vary the output voltage of the power supply. The output voltage can be calculated using the formula: Vout = 5V (1 + R2/R1), where R1 is the resistance between the middle pin and one outer pin of the potentiometer, and R2 is the resistance between the middle pin and the other outer pin of the potentiometer.
