Got my hardcover copy of Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom by Rachel Pollack today! I've gone through a few copies of this book in paperback and I've wanted the hardcover for a while now. So excited to read it again! #78degreesofwisdom #rachelpollack #wiserbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CPZDjxMntPt/?utm_medium=tumblr
78 Degrees Of Wisdom by Rachel Pollack brought the tarot back into my life in a huge way. Before reading this book, I didn’t understand the system of the tarot one iota. According to the little white books that come with most tarot decks, the meaning for each card seemed very strange and calculated. I don’t have a memorization brain so there was absolutely no way I’d be able to commit all of those canned meanings to memory, they just didn’t make any sense. I’m the type of person who can learn new things easily if I understand the formula or system behind their creation. In 78 Degrees of Wisdom Rachel reveals the esoteric framework behind the tarot which brings together a host of esoteric and spiritual systems such as the tree of life, the Hebrew alphabet, astrology and alchemy to create an extremely powerful divination tool. After reading this book, I was able to break the tarot down into its parts and develop my own understanding of each card. This is what inspired me to create the Outsider Tarot, rethinking every card from the original “formula” while adding some more modern elements into the mix. Rachel Pollack is one of the most gifted, powerful and influential Outsiders I’ve ever met. I will write an entire post about her in the near future. Have you read 78 Degrees of Wisdom or one of Rachel’s other books? What helped you finally get a grasp on the tarot?
I'm entranced by the #twoofcups from #slowhollertarot. The use of collage is so deft, inspired -- the multiple faces of each figure, the line detail of the hands, the intertwined flow of the water sharpened like my beloved woodcuts. The rethought speech bubbles, overlapping but not stifling. The bright, ovular glow around the figures, illustrating their intimacy without constraining it. "A wholly egalitarian relationship," writes @jessacrispin in #thecreativetarot. "[T]he card shows how two people, by uniting their separate qualities and abilities through love, produce something in their lives beyond what either would have achieved alone." Revisiting 78 Degrees of Wisdom, a book I read before but have wanted to reread. This time I'm bringing the #oliverhiberttarot along for the ride. It's funny how I'm enjoying this book even more this time around. I think I read it fairly quick last time so I didn't soak it all in. #tarot #oliverhibert #78degreesofwisdom always room for more #tarotstudy
"None of us can know the full meaning of being alive until, like Odin, we hang ourselves on the World Tree, its roots deep beyond knowledge in the sea of experience, its branches lost among the endless stars." 🌊🌳✨ ... #rachelpollack #78degreesofwisdom #hangedman @fountaintarot (at Tarot Society Gallery & Reading Room)
