After something like 15 years of trying to find a window, I today finally managed to get down to the legendary Greg's Greats (78 dealer to John Peel & the like), in Foxton.
I'm sure it's not the case, but he is so busting at the seams that it feels as if he has every 78 ever issued, but denies being responsible for the long dip in 78 supplies to charity shops.
He and his wife were very good at putting up with me burrowing through their dance band boxes, and asking tedious beginner's questions on the breakable antiquities. I would very much like to take him up on the offer to return some time, to make it through yet more. He has a local radio show that is available (and archived) online, a stage at Camp Bestival, is on Facebook, eBay, etc etc. If you ever wanted a 78 that is even remotely available, he probably has it, and there are thousands of very affordable ones alongside the big hitters.
Now to start playing them...I have a feeling there may even be one or two here that bring a wee tear to the eye...
