The first six pages of the document are mostly planning and outline, so this worked out perfectly for capturing actual story....

I was tagged by @pineau-noir​. My I-intend-to-post-this-in-a-reasonable-timeframe WIPs are not 7 pages long. The “I wrote this scrap of something for fun and may not do anything with it” ones, however, are. So this may be all anyone ever sees! Fortunately, this is perhaps the least tantalizing part of the whole thing. Have some domestic pre-war Brooklyn Boys.

It had been at least a quarter of an hour since Steve left the bedroom when Bucky appeared, looking slightly dazed but otherwise his normal carefree self. Steve looked up slightly nervously as he entered the kitchen, but he only grinned and opened a cupboard, rummaging around. “Smells delicious, Steve, what’re you making?”

           “Roast,” Steve said. “Was too good a cut to use for stew.”

           “What’s on the stove then?”

           “Not all of it was good enough to roast."

...I don’t think I know seven other people well enough to tag. :P If you *want* to do this, consider yourself tagged!

I can’t do this one properly without spoiling the end of chapter 3 of You Can Be Had, so here are seven sentences following the seventh line of that chapter, part of a conversation between Jonathan and William:

“Dinner? Bloody hell, you must be losing your touch.”

“Oh right, and you think you could do better, do you?”

“I’m not the one who made the bet,” William says, smug as you like.

“No,” says Jonathan, nettled, “and you’re not the one who’s getting a night in Art’s dungeon.”

William’s smug look intensifies, a thing Jonathan would have sworn was impossible.

“Art’s asked me round tonight, actually,” he says.

(Technically my current WIP is not 7 pages yet and likely won’t be, so instead I’m going to my permanent WIP. Also absolutely NO ONE has copied exactly 7 sentences so I, likewise, will copy as many as I fucking please)

They walked a pace in silence, Will grateful for the chance to mull over what the stranger had said and why. Why should he want to consider the motives of the wolves? And why press him, someone he had never met, to think about it too?

“Look, look, look!” the stranger threw out an arm, halting Will’s progress and interrupting his train of thought, again. The stranger stepped into the far side of a tree, pulling Will with him as soon as Will had stopped dragging the wagon. Will, infuriated, was about to object, when he saw what had caught the stranger’s eye.

A beautiful and dark stag had just stepped into a clearing beyond the path. Its head was up, alert to any sound or movement. It stepped delicately over the snow and slowly lowered its head, satisfied that there was no danger here. This was very late in the season to be seeing any deer, the rest of the herds had moved south for a better chance at food over the winter months. This handsome straggler was overdue for moving on and vulnerable without a herd.

Will pressed against the stranger, leaning over him for a better look. The stag was almost raven colored, his hooves and antlers like coal, a faint dusting of ash and silver over his flanks. He had never seen deer this color before, he wondered where it could have come from. “He’s exquisite,” Will whispered, his words a puff of vapor.

The stranger nodded, “Very rare, I didn’t want you to miss him,” he murmured.

(Okay, it doesn’t sound interesting from this excerpt BUT I PROMISE YOU IT IS.)

Tagged by @mazarin221b.  Miracle of miracles, I actually do have a WIP.  It’s been in progress forever and it will be for ages more, but yes, here’s a piece from Le Secretaire:  

Eames looks at Arthur,  nodding seriously at the client on the other end of the line, writing the name with great care and precision, as if he were recording it in Eames’s appointments ledger than than smearing it onto Eames’s increasingly sweaty palm.  “Yes, of course, I’ve noted that.  Yes, good day to you too sir.” 

With Arthur totally focused on his telephone conversation, Eames can’t help but grin at this ridiculous young man with his tailored suits and slicked back hair and odd combination of precision and inexperience.  

Arthur hangs up the phone and furrows his brow at Eames’ hand: “That’s a T not a D at the end.  I hope it’s legible.”

Eames stares at Arthur a moment too long.  It would be easy, criminally easy, to have Arthur.  A few well-timed compliments, a smoldering glance, a late night in the office…. Eames has done it enough to have it down to a science.  Also down to a science?  Being charming as l’affaire runs its course, so there are no hurt feelings—just an excellent reference for his former secretary and a waiting room full of shiny young hopefuls.

It’s summer in this corner too, despite the frosty atmosphere between them. He looks down, frowning and Sherlock can see the name label sewn in round his neck. Reduced to Billy again.

Sherlock says nothing. Billy’s not one for small talk and he himself loathes it. They sit, mutually silent and mutually respectful, like a pair of ally cats too prudent to spat.

Billy’s clearly been camped outside for as long as he can contrive to be.
