“Tommy? W-why are you-“
“You don’t get to do this.” He snapped from his position in the doorway.
“Do what?” Confusion decorated Bucks face. It’s not like the car accident was his fault.
“You don’t get to die on me when I’m mad at you.”
He crossed the room quickly towards Bucks hospital bed.
“What are you do-inmmrff!”
Tommys hands were gentle as they held Bucks head but his lips weren’t. They were firm and searing hot and Buck barely had a moment to understand what was happening before Tommy was peeling off his lips. He kept his hands on Buck face.
“I’m mad at you and I love you.”
Buck blinked up at him in a stupor. Half because Tommy always made him feel like that after kissing him. But also because he hadn’t expected Tommy to say those words. He’d stupidly said something in anger when Tommy had brought up the ridiculous notion that he and Eddie had any feelings between them other than familial. And he’d convinced himself he’d pushed Tommy away forever. He opened his mouth to speak but Tommy got in there first.
“Don’t say anything. Just listen. I love you. I’m in love with you and it terrifies me. You terrify me. One minute you were this cute guy getting on my helo and the next you’re in my whole chest, taking up all the space I need to breathe. I have run, my whole life, from the things that terrify me, even the things I want with every part of me. So, yeah you terrify me. Being with you terrifies me but I’m going to do it anyway. I’m going to love you anyway.”
Buck didn’t need to tell Tommy how he felt—his heart monitor was doing a damn good job at giving away his feelings by beeping rapidly and loudly against the silence Tommy had left for Buck to fill.
But his face softened anyway. The tears escaped and his mouth curled into that beautiful fond smile Tommy adored. He lifted his arm—the one that wasn’t wrapped in a cast all the way up past his elbow—and pulled Tommy’s mouth back to his by the back of his neck.
“I love you, too.” He whispered breathlessly.
