Cisco 2802 radios is admin up, but down

I recently deployed Cisco 2802e (AIR-AP2802E-B-K9) access points in a warehouse. The facility was existing and had a couple PoE enabled Cisco 3750v2 switches. The 2802s powered up and registered to the new controller. After configuring the access points, the radios would not turn on.

Lancom introduceert vier nieuwe access points, alle te beheren via Lancom Managed Cloud

Het Duitse Lancom heeft vandaag liefst vier nieuwe access points aan de wereld voorgesteld. Het zijn alle 802.11ac Wave 2-modellen, dus met ondersteuning voor MU MIMO. Cisco Meraki running in low power mode

Hooked up a bunch of Cisco Meraki MR34 to a HP Procurve zl5412 switch. They kept reporting ”PoE 802.3af (running in low power mode)”. The switch is capable of delivering over 30 watts per port, so PoE+ (802.3at) should’t be a problem.

Solution? Turns out just raising Maximum Watts to 33 don’t cut it. The Meraki starts using all them watts but still reports low power mode. One also has to enable PoE LLDP-MED (can be done via the Procurve switch web interface) to get Meraki running with full power.

(Without the full power the Meraki won't use some of it extra nifty scanning capabilities.)
