There were many aspects of the Basilica that most tended to find strange or unnerving. The catacombs, the odd dark hallways and damp corners, the mystery surrounding it. But there was beauty hidden in those cracks and fissures, glimmers of hope in the rubble like flowers on a dead tree. To Vittorino, you wholly encompassed that hope. You had worked as a singer for the choir when the Basilica was running, and now that it was run down you mostly only visited to see the pale priest himself.
Still, the familiar surroundings compelled you. So, when you thought you were alone, you began recounting an old hymn you'd been taught. Vittorino was near the middle of the pews, leaning against one as he watched you. Hearing your voice echo off of the walls almost made him dizzy with awe. These wide harrowing arches and labyrinthine doors had never deterred your song. He remembered hearing it in nights he thought he'd never hear such sweetness again.
"What a gift it is, that voice of yours" he spoke up. You jolted, the last note you'd hit pitching up in alarm in a way that made the priest chuckle warmly. You quickly turned to face him "Ah- Vitto! I'm sorry, I hadn't meant to keep you waiting for so long-". "Not long at all, no" Vittorino replied. He slowly stepped up to your side, giving you a wide and toothy grin "Maybe not long enough". You gave a little amused huff, nudging his shoulder "Be honest; how out of tune was I? It's been ages since I've had a proper warmup"
"Just as good as the day you started" Vittorino replied. It was rare that he felt this— this softness to his chest, a honeyed balm to his ailments. Your song had always done that to him. Many nights of a restless and vengeful Vittorino led to him laying his head in your lap, only being able to sleep if you carried him to it with your voice. He was also better at thinking these lines of poetry rather than saying them, but he did what he could to express his affection.
"When I started I hadn't had any training!" You protested with a chuckle "You're saying I sound inexperienced". "Why can't you ever just let me say something kind, hm?" Vittorino asked you in return, his gaze showing he was being playful. "I'll accept one from you the day you learn to accept gifts from me without fussing about it" you replied. Vittorino snorted, pulling you to his chest with an arm around your waist "Good to see your attitude hasn't changed in all these years"
"Not too bad yourself, prettyboy" you replied, tilting his head towards you and planting a kiss to his cheek. His smile wasn't quite as big as before, but it was even more genuine. He pressed his nose into your cheek, nuzzling into you "My songbird". "What's got you in such a good mood today?" You asked, wrapping your arms around his shoulders. He gave a lazy hum of contentment, pressing his forehead to yours "Just you"
"Didn't know you were so soft on me" you joked. Vittorino gave a mildly disapproving huff at the comment, but he let it roll past without a rebuttal just this once. "I think I should be allowed to be, every once in a while at least. Especially with my songbird in my arms". "Alright, turtledove, that's enough romance books for you" you replied.
"There, see?" Vittorino said, kissing your nose "Now we're both terrible". "It's like you're infecting me" you chuckled, and Vittorino only held you closer "Good, then. There's no better way to be than this"

It was the middle of the night, or at least you assumed it was. It was a little hard to give an accurate estimate of time in the strange pocket dimension sort of limbo that you and Dante took residency in. You'd woken up for a simple trip in search of a drink, but there was something bugging you. The bed had been empty when you'd woken up. You'd hoped that Dante would be down in the kitchen, but you couldn't see him anywhere. It was always at least a little unsettling without him there- you were much more of a stranger to this place than he was.
After sipping from the water that you'd got, the door to the home suddenly swung open. You jolted, looking around and seeing a tall, unnaturally pale man clad in green walking into the room. You gave a heavy sigh, putting your glass down "Dante! God, you scared the hell out of me...". Dante's eyes flicked up to you, his furrowed brow softening. He walked in, closing the door with a heavy swing "You're awake?". "I needed something to drink" you explained "I got kinda worried when I didn't see you here"
Dante put down a bag that he had been carrying over his shoulders, which landed on the ground with a hard thud "I went out to find us some food". "Oh! Oh, um- thank you, it looks... lovely" you responded, a little tentatively. You could see Dante's eyes upturn, hinting at a large grin behind his black mask. He always felt proud to be the 'provider' between you two, giving you all the oddly and probably-fresh supplies you'd need. He walked up to you, wrapping his long arms around your form.
You smiled when feeling him nuzzle into the top of your head, hearing a pleased rumble resonate throughout his chest. "You'll be exhausted tomorrow if you keep staying awake" Dante said, looking down at you with wider pupils "You could falter. Trip, maybe. Then what?". "Then I'll have you carry me home" you said, giving him a cheek peck that temporarily melted his onset eerieness. He stood up tall, lifting you with him and shifting you to be bridal-style carried in his arms.
You picked up the glass you'd gotten and allowed him to carry you back to your shared room. It was pretty simplistic, but styled after Dante's affinity for hunting, such as various ornaments taken from his wins hung up as decorations and somewhat messily made fur blankets. He placed you down, staring and waiting for you to get adjusted before beginning to climb in. You put a hand on his chest to stop him birefly "Your jacket's a mess, love". Dante huffed, but stood back up to find something more clean.
You smiled as he went, getting comfortable under the covers. Since Dante wasn't exactly human, things like sleep and eating weren't necessary to begin with. But he loved cuddling you while you rested and gathering materials for you to cook with, so he tried to keep track of both. Then again, he was intensely clingy, hence why these hunting trips usually happened at night where you were already resting. At least that way he'd know you're safe at home as he works.
Dante slid into bed fully, wrapping his arms around you and pressing his chest to your back. He entangled his legs with yours, chin nestling into your shoulder. He was in a neater set of clothes, grumbling a little as he cuddled as close as he could be. "Goodnight love" you said with a little yawn, and he chuckled just a bit "Dream well, little jackal" he said softly, kissing the corner of your jaw before falling silent, letting you be lulled into sleep.
Heyyyy I love your writing!!!! Could you write a Ryker x reader where we take care of him after the car crash? Angst to fluff please <33
☆ Take Care, Priest — Ryker x GN Reader Fic ☆
Genre: Angst To Fluff || they/them pronouns for reader (and Ryker!) || Warning for mentions/description of injury

"I told you, I can't go to the hospital" Ryker said, sitting in the passenger seat of your car. "Like hell you can't! You got hit by a car, you need to see a doctor" you replied, turning into the lane you needed and continuing down the way. "I don't have any insurance, I really can't pay for anything" Ryker insisted, holding their freshly bruised and somewhat-splintered ribs. "Jesus, is that why you've been refusing to go?" You asked them, briefly glancing over. Seeing the two black eyes and scattered cuts across their face made your chest ache and churn terribly. When you hit a red light, Ryker leaned over to gently hold your arm. "Please..." they begged, in a voice that croaked and broke on the way out "I can't, I just- I really, really can't. Please"
You took the chance to look at them, seeing their begging expression. They were pleading for you to listen, but something made up your mind when seeing them wince in pain from just breathing. When the light turned green, you kept going down the street. "I'll pay for you". "Wh-what?" Ryker sputtered. "I'll pay for you" you repeated "There's no way you're gonna make it like this alone, at the very least you're going to get a terrible infection". "I-" Ryker began, but cut themself off when seeing your expression "..Okay, fine". They leaned their temple on the window beside them, trying to ignore the shooting pains every shift caused while their mind slipped away
The next time they awoke, it was in a room completely unfamiliar to them. White, but very dim. The only thing they could see was a shadowy figure beside them. They felt their fear spike, and they shot up, immediately becoming lightheaded. Through the messy confusion, they felt your hands. "Hey, hey, look at me" your voice called. Their eyes slowly pulled in the vision around them— IV, thin sheets, sanitized room— a hospital. When they looked down, your face was the one beside the bed, palms steadying their shoulders.
"I- oh-" Ryker sighed, leaning back. Their head still felt like hell, but the suffocating pain was now lulled to a dull soreness "Is it over..?". "Mm, kinda" you responded, scooting your chair closer to their bedside "They said you'll be recovering for a while, but you're stable now". "I feel... numb?" Ryker replied, and you couldn't help but snort a little "You're on a lot of medicine". "Ah" the priest sighed. They lifted an arm to rub their eyes, blinking away the heavy bleariness.
"How are you feeling aside from that?" You asked, petting their free hand. Ryker held your hand in their own, taking a deep breath "Better... but you really didn't have to do this for me". "Oh, stop, you needed the help" you replied "I couldn't let you sit there and keep hurting". Ryker fell silent for a little, just taking the opportunity to gently pet your hand with their thumb. With all the confusion they've felt since making it to Rosso Cadere, and since what happened to Leon... it had been a long time since they felt cared for like this.
When hearing a small sniffle, you looked up. Ryker was looking down at the sheets, eyes starting to well up. You sat up a little straighter, immediately feeling worried "Oh shit- does something hurt? Do you need a doctor??". "No, no, just-" they began. After only a second of pause, they quickly pulled you into a loose and gentle hug "Thank you, is all". You wrapped your arms around them in return, rubbing the back of their neck to soothe them "No problem"
When they pulled back, a soft smile was on their face. They wiped their eyes "Are you sure this is okay-?". "Of course, Ry, don't worry about it" You said, guiding them to lean back comfortably "I've got you. Just focus on resting". Ryker nodded, still holding onto your arm "Can you maybe stay with me?" They hesitantly asked. "Absolutely" you responded, petting the back of their knuckles "For as long as you need". Ryker's eyes began drooping, comfortably nesting into the hospital bed. They mumbled something under their breath, slowly dozing off.
You gently tucked their arm back to their side, pulling their blankets up for them. Man, you really needed to talk to them about a day off sometime, even when all the swelling went down from getting hit, they still looked terribly exhausted. But, in due time. For now, you simply let them sleep, picking up a book to read

A/N: Story takes place post breakup for Juliek and Accardi, Reader's known them both since childhood (I love Juliek I swear but this idea's been with me for months)
──────.𖥔 ݁ ˖˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗.𖥔 ݁ ˖ ──────
You'd known Juliek to be a man who hardly ever became shy when it came to his opinions. He'd blatantly state what he felt, when he felt it. That was the Juliek you knew, the bold one who pulled you from your shell and shared many years by your side. But the two of you had always been accompanied by another, someone who's name wasn't best to be spoken around Juliek at the moment.
You'd gotten a call summoning you to his home, and you opened up the door, carefully peering inside. "Jules?" You called "I made it". "Back here" came a flat voice from down a hall. It hurt to hear him like that, so defeated and raw, his words cracking as they came from his throat. You made sure to take your shoes off before entering, making your way down to his bedroom. The sight of a ruined man greeted you. He didn't look nearly as neatly composed as he usually would, pink hair ruffled and lines under his eyes. He hadn't even gotten out of his sleep robe. "Awh, Juliek..." You began in a soft, sympathetic tone.
"I know, I know. I'm a mess" Juliek complained, sluggishly sitting up in bed "Just get over here." You nodded, coming closer to sit on the edge of his mattress. He scooted closer to you, practically flopping to lean against you for stability. "Are you feeling okay?" You asked gently, rubbing his back. He slowly turned his head up to look at you "Look me in the eyes.. and ask that again" he said lowly. "Okay, okay, point taken" you said, watching as he leaned his head on your shoulder.
"I don't... understand" Juliek mumbled "I.. knew it would happen someday, but- but I'd hoped-". He got choked up before he could finish, clearing his throat to try and hide it "Well, shows me right for wishing like that". "Hey, no," you began gently "You didn't do anything wrong. Neither did he. This-" You sighed a bit "Emotions are really complicated, you know? Love is that but doubled. All these years of Earth being around and we still don't fully understand it"
"I'm, what, just another mark on his life?" Juliek asked, frustration creeping into his tone "He gets to go off with that- that priest, and I'm stuck picking up what was left?". "Juliek, he didn't mean it like that" you said softly, but the pink haired man was already sitting up at his full height again. "You should've heard him. 'Autumn is a season that reminds us it's okay to let things go'. He uses that insufferable flowery language, and it gets in my head, and I can't focus around him! He knows how I feel, but... was it my fault for hoping, or his for letting me?"
You stayed silent, letting him vent. His emotions were as scattered as could be, and you could tell he barely had a grasp on them himself. "If.. if he didn't want me, then- why did we... do any of this?" Juliek finally asked, the words a meek murmur. You slowly reached a hand out, patting his shoulder. "He still cares about you, Jules. You've been friends for so long, and you know he wouldn't just leave you" you said. Juliek nodded silently.
You slid your hand down, taking both of his in your own "I know you don't hate him. You're hurting, and that's okay. You don't have to be okay right now, it's a big change for you". Juliek looked up, vulnerability etched across his face as he looked into your eyes. You continued, "He's not leaving you, Juliek. And neither am I. Things are different, sure, but they're not bad now. You still mean a lot to him". Juliek tried to hide it, but you heard a slight sniffle come from him. You pulled him close, meeting him halfway in an embrace.
You couldn't blame him, in all honesty. You'd seen for years how he lit up when Accardi was around, how Juliek stood against those who got too close to him time and time again. They were never fully anything more, but Juliek had been hoping for the opposite outcome. He slowly pulled back from you, quickly wiping at his eyes. "Ugh, look at me" he groaned "I'm getting all red and worked up". You chuckled, brushing some stray loose hairs away from his face "You look great, as always"
"Thank you, I know" Juliek said. It was more like himself, like the man you always knew. You couldn't help but smile a little more as he began finally straightening himself up. "Do you wanna head back to sleep?" You asked, and Juliek shook his head "No, Amalia will be home any second". You gave a thoughtful nod, standing up as well. While Juliek was taking off his robe, you spoke softly, "I can maybe... make you guys dinner?"
Seeing Juliek turn to see you, you felt a wave of worry wash over you "I mean- if that's okay! I just want you to take it easy, and all that". Juliek's usual grin slowly returned, something soft beneath the usual confidence that came with it. He made sure his sweater was straight, coming up to you side "Thank you, really. I'll... be back in my right mind soon". "Take all the time you need" you replied "I'm always happy to be here for you, you know that"
Juliek hummed in agreement, combing back his hair "She'll love to know you're here, you know. Amalia adores your visits". You smiled warmly at the thought "So do I". "Come now," Juliek said, extending his arm when he was done. You accepted it, and Juliek begin leading you to the living room. You went to head for the kitchen, Juliek preparing drinks. It was so much nicer seeing him that way, the poor man's been through enough heartbreak for a lifetime. But at least in this moment with you, he was already more than a little better.
