Patterns+
Cosplay by McCalls is releasing two new patterns today!
Renegade (M2069) is a punkish plus-size bodice pattern by Anachronism in Action. It looks easily modifiable towards either Cyberpunk (just add EL wire along the seam lines) or steampunk (add….chains and gears and stuff?)
Sentinel (M2080) is Ranger-esque outfit with a hood that actually looks big enough for my melon-head and I won’t lie, I kind of want to make this just to wear to cons as a comfy generic elf.
American Duchess’s Outlander Pattern Hack
Remember those Simplicity patterns (8161, 8162) by American Duchess inspired by Outlander?
If you hop over to the American Duchess blog, you can read up about pattern hacking (one of my favourite things to do) and how to turn the simplicity pattern into something more accurate both to the historical era and the screen. It’s still in progress, but certainly worth checking out.
Costumes in the Wild
That Victorian Couple is in the news again, this time for complaining that the Butchart Botanical gardens refused them entry when they wore Victorian dress despite the established rules of “Garden etiquette: Please note, costumes and period style or historical dress is not permitted in the Gardens.” (Emphasis mine).
If only we were able to do shoots here ;_; photo (c) www.butchartgardens.com
Apparently the Gardens still would have let them stay if the woman took her hat off, but nope. Wouldn’t do it. The take away from this is always check the policies of locations before wearing costumes there, folks.
Also I can’t help but wonder if they chose to vacation in Victoria BC because… Victorian? Either way, I don’t have a lot of sympathy for them. This isn’t discrimination, just bad research. Real discrimination is when black cosplayers are killed by police for dressing up from an anime.

Tech Troubles
If you follow my facebook page, you might have seen the post where I mention that my phone turned into a brick last week. With it, it took some of the photos of the sew along so while I’m in the process of recovering them, the usual update on Thursday might get pushed back to Friday. Thanks for understanding. <3
