Pies and Prejudice

It might not look like much from the outside, or to a younger brother headed towards a big time law career, but it wasn’t so bad that Dean needed to scrabble around for any opportunity to make a change – particularly not one as stupid as this. He’s going to throttle Sam the next time he sees him, for getting him involved in this ridiculous Bake-Off TV show. It’s bad enough that Dean has to cook in front of people he doesn’t know; he now has to go through the humiliation of being judged on it too. Its humiliation piled on humiliation, and to make matters worse Dean has to play nice with all the other suckers involved, like that rich dick-bag Castiel Novak. God, he hates that guy, and he hates that someone so awful has such a frustratingly fine ass. Written for the Dean/Castiel Big Bang 2013 (Pride and Prejudice AU) Review: Odi et amo. I hated and loved this fic. I hated it, because the unresolved sexual tension almost killed me. I wanted them to be together so badly I binge read this fic in two days. That means 49k words in one day, I don’t know about you, but for me, that’s a lot. At the other hand, I loved it, because the story just worked so well. They followed the storyline of Pride and Prejudice (as far as I know, I only read the Wikipedia summary :/) but also did their own thing with it. I loved that.

Have Love, Will Travel

Both men find themselves inexplicably drawn to each other, and soon Dean's private dances for Castiel become much more, as both men confess their troubles and find solace in each other's company. But neither can seem to find the courage to take their relationship further than the intimacy of the club's VIP Room—and just when Dean's own brother gives him the excuse he needs to finally admit his feelings, Dean discovers something that brings it all crumbling down. Will they find a way past their demons and their trust issues, and back to each other?

Review: I think the summary sounds quite angsty. And in a way it is, especially, in the beginning. Cas has social anxiety. In the beginning he feels kind of awkward about going to a strip club with his brother but it gradually gets better. When you start reading  the fic, it doesnt give you all the information at once. Their backstories are given away later in the story. I liked that more, it makes you ask questions. I have found out over the course of the summer that stripper au's are my thing. I just really like them . And I think I now have read almost every stripper au and I'm almost certain this is my favourite one. Hence the review. There's a lot of smut in this fic, which is kind of logical, I mean, it is a stripper au. It's also really fluffy, cause out of the strip club, Dean is like the most adorable guy ever. If you like stripper au's, you should really read this.

Cooking with Gas

Summary: Castiel Novak has it all. He's rich, famous, has a top rated cooking show and restaurant, drives an expensive car and wears Armani. His producer throws a contest to spend a day with Chef Novak, cooking and learning techniques. Castiel wants no part of it, but Balthazar insists and Castiel will do as expected. What Castiel wasn't expecting was to fall head over heels for the winner. Dean Winchester hasn't had a successful relationship in his 34 years on Earth. He's got a past he'd like to keep hidden, and his life rotates around his family and his business. Winning a contest to spend a day with his favorite TV chef is a shock, but a welcome diversion from his day to day life...until he meets the guy, and he turns out to be a big jerk. Dean figures he should have expected that. What he wasn't expecting was that same gorgeous blue-eyed man to sweep in and shake up his entire world.

Review: First of all, there was a lot of fluff. I really liked it. Like, three quarters of this fic (and it's quite long) is pure fluff. Also, I really liked the way the decor was described. I just found the descriptions very lively and I could really picture it. Dean has a very big family in this fic. The dynamic between those charachters was really nice. They were just funny and  happy to be with each other. It's nice to see Dean having such a loving family. Despite being apart a lot of the time, it felt very domestic. When they are together at home, it's just very nice. In other fics Dean and Cas eat a lot of fast food. But these two like to cook, so when they do, they describe what they are making and how.  It's almost like a recipe. I found it very pleasant to read, because it gave this extra touch. I did find the ending a bit cheesy, though. Everyone was happy, and it was this stereotypical romcom ending. I just found it a little bit too much. But that's like the only thing I didn't like about the fic, the rest was just awesome. There is a sequel and a sequel of the sequel but the latter isn't finished yet. And I've been liking those too. The sequel is mostly just one shots. The part is, assuming from the summary, going to be a bit more angsty, though. I obviously really liked it. It's just an amazing read and I really recommend it.

Not All That

Summary: After moving around all over the country with their father, Dean and Sam Winchester finally settle in a small town in Illinois with their Uncle Bobby for some stability. After starting high school, Dean finds himself breaking the most important rule of all, after only ten minutes - Do no talk to the Novak family.

Review: For some unknown reason I thought this fic was one in which Dean and Castiel are neighbours. They are not. Instead, this is a cute high school au where the characters learn a lot about themselves. There's a lot of meddling going on in this by pretty much all the characters, but it was kind of endearing to see how much they all cared about Dean and Cas. 

Now onto the Destiel part: It's very slow. First you get the tension between them - which I don't mind, personally - but when they're together, they take it really slow. Dean is so sweet in this and it's really fun to see how Castiel opens up more as their relationship progresses.

So yeah. This is awesome. It's also the first part of a 'verse, so if you read it and liked it, there's more in this 'verse!
