Canadian women lose to Japan in FIBA Olympic qualifier finale
The Canadian senior women's basketball team will have to wait and see if it will qualify for the 2024 Paris Games.
Canada lost 86-82 to Japan on Sunday in their final game of a FIBA Olympic qualifying tournament in Sopron, Hungary.
Canada finished with a 1-2 record after defeating Hungary 67-55 Thursday and falling to Spain 60-55 Friday.
Three of the four teams in the event will advance to the 2024 Paris Games.
All four teams entered the last day of tournament play with identical 1-1 records. Japan advanced, meaning Canada will now need Spain to defeat Hungary later Sunday in order to qualify.
