November 4: Welp

So, today, instead of writing, I spent most of the afternoon on the phone with Spectrum. Nothing fries ones brain quite like having to spend a couple hours dealing with cable company customer service. However, I now have faster, theoretically better internet, and tomorrow’s a whole new day, with a whole “extra” hour of time for me to write stuff. 

All that said, I’m not altogether unhappy with my progress so far, even though it’s early in the month. It could certainly be going worse, at any rate.

She wants to call it a phoenix, if only because she has no other name for a bird so plainly supernatural.

It does not flame, though its eyes glow red. Its feathers reflect all the light which hits it in just the manner that they throw off an opalescent sheen. Trees will not hold its weight: it roosts on her house instead, supported by the steel beams which she left exposed to the sky.

It permits her to ride it. She does not ask it for more.

Grocery Shopping

  An elderly gentleman asked me to help him out with his groceries. He moved slowly as he pushed the creaking, rusty cart through the door. He turned to me and said, “This getting old stuff is crap.” I  bleakly smiled and held the side of the cart, guiding him towards the door, towards the bright white light outside. He stopped at the door before saying to me, “But I haven’t figured out if the alternative is any better.” With a mortal uncertainty he exited the store.
