it’s a portmanteau for the Mayor Dewey/Pearl ““ship”“...which, yes, was brought into existence for some bizarre reason.

I don’t know how they get their list but apparently I’m on it and I’ve never spoken about Pewey? It’s sort of weird. Does any other ship do this??? Is any other ship this confusing and surreal.

nope. I’m pretty sure the #pewey fans have a solid monopoly on the confusing, the surreal, and the extra in this fandom. blocking/adding random bloggers like you to their “list” is probably just the tip of the iceberg for all that mess.

pewey just makes me soooo uncomfortable. Dewey is the only one who’s shown an interest. I can even get behind pearl/jasper for now - pewey is just so squicky to me tho

I wish I could say that I’m surprised that #pewey...exists--but silencing female and non-male characters’ voices and invalidating their identities on the word of a Single (One) (1) Male and ~His Feelings~ are nasty traditions that have been alive and well in many a fandom for as long as I can remember.

though, yeah--exactly. it’s not even just because Pearl is coded as a lesbian--though that would certainly be enough.

on top of that, it’s that Pearl has never shown any interest in Dewey...it’s that Pearl has reacted to Dewey’s advances with swift and unapologetic rejection...it’s that Pearl was and still is so in love with Rose and is still grieving her, and that Pearl’s relationships with Garnet and Amethyst are so clearly brimming with intimacy and meaning...it’s that Dewey’s ~feelings~ for Pearl are superficial and based on idealized physical attraction, yet they’re enough to override everything else.

does this work on the actual tumblr app or only when youre logged into tumblr via the internet browser app? :^0 i mean its useful knowledge either way tho!
