Happy Birthday ♊️ to Lydia Lunch the Queen of New York City No Wave and an exceptionally gifted cutting edge performer, writer, poet, actor and self-empowerment speaker @lydia.lunch.official @lydialunchfilm 🖤 I try to catch her every time with her band Retrovirus or when she does her raw, incendiary and provocative spoken word performances which at times can have a bit of tongue-lashing. Not recommended for the sensitive or faint of heart. I have been a huge fan since my teen years and got to see her perform in the early 80s with Henry Rollins. I especially love her duet with Rowland S. Howard and their cover of “Some Velvet Morning”. Her collaborations with some of the artists who I respect such as Sonic Youth, Nick Cave, and Steven Severin to name a few are notable. Her contributions to the no wave music scene in New York started in 1977 with Teenage Jesus and the Jerks with James Chance and produced by Brian Eno. She later went on with the band 8 Eyed Spy. No wave music was avant-garde stylistically and hard to define since it tried to break down traditional forms during its contemporaries but some main elements were atonal noise akin to noise music itself and dissonance often delivered with feedback. Her solo albums Queen of Siam (debut) and 13.13 are personal favorites. And then of course her third album Honeymoon in Red which was a conceptual album featuring members of The Birthday Party. I consider her a pioneer and groundbreaking on so many levels as an artist and with her work in underground films. She has undeniably influenced so many with her music and nihilistic and unapologetic attitude during the punk rock era to post-punk and beyond… 🖤🔪🔥🧷🦇 🏴☠️ 🏴☠️ 🏴☠️ #LydiaLunch #LydiaAnneKoch #TeenageJesusAndTheJerks #8EyedSpy #NoWave #Noise #NoiseMusic #Pioneer #QueenOfSiam #13.13 #HoneymoonInRed #SpokenWord #UndergroundFilmmaker #Writer #Poet #Actor (at New York City, N.Y.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPpAVZ9Livb/?utm_medium=tumblr
