8: what musical artists have you most felt connected to over your lifetime?
fall out boy and patd have gotten me through some shit, lol. nd like they say, once an emo always an emo
more recently ive really resonated with halseys music, particularly control and gasoline, i really relate to it and shes a good singer as well
15: five most influential books over your lifetime.
harry potter
this one is kind of self explanatory lol but the universality of the themes and the characters and just how easy it is to get lost in the world of hogwarts has always meant a lot to me, its like a second home and i definitely grew up with these books! look at me getting all teary now
a series of unfortunate events
i feel like these books were the most influential in developing my style as a writer! the dark humour, the very postmodern mish mash of eras and gadgets and characters and timelines and the tangential style excited me so much as a kid and inspires me so much as an adult
frankenstein
i read it for the first time in uni and fell in love with mary shelley lol and now i want to dedicate my life to studies in gothic horror
pride and prejudice
i read it in high school literature and the teacher was so passionate and in love with it that she made me fall in love with it and it was the book that made me want to pursue literature as an academic study, the subtlety of the themes and the wry, sarcastic humour is really intriguing and i find something new every time i read it
the lion, the witch and the wardrobe
when i was in primary school my favourite librarian let me have an illustrated copy of this book that had just been ordered in and wasn’t even on the shelves yet, so it was kind of a secret and it was the most beautiful book my 8 year old ass had ever seen and i’ve never forgotten that gesture. i dont even know if that librarian even knew how much that meant to me. i hope she does
