Detroit: Reconstructed, 12/1/17
National Theatre, Albert Kahn with Ernest Wilby, 1911
Irregular gelatin silver contact print
This survivor from 1911 is the only existing theatre designed by Kahn, and the only example left from Detroit's first theatre district. It's twin 64 foot gold domed towers consist of airy grill work with a grand Romanesque arch over the entrance. It features flanking eagles, cupids and carved stone rosettes, all clad in white terra cotta.
