Encino Man's Life Lingo & Life Lessons
I originally wrote this in pages on a rainy day last year when I was bored. However, I deleted my blog shortly after writing it, so I rewrote what I could remember from the original post. I hope the 90's babies like it. Please read.
1992’s ‘ENCINO MAN’ LIFE LINGO & LIFE LESSONS
Lingo:
Cruising the mountains = riding roller coasters
Wheezing the juice = stealing juice (a.k.a. ICEE) from a department store
Weezin’ off his gig = making money off of him; marketing him
Weezing off your grindage = being fed or financed by someone else other than yourself
Stoney time = A good time
Make up your melons = make up your mind
That was harsh = that was mean
What’s the juice? = you want to fight?/ you got a problem?
SHUSH! = Shut the fuck up!
‘Snaked’ your last bagel = I just stole your last bagel
Stoked = Excited
Melon tweakage = wigging out/ going crazy
She finds you crusty = She thinks you’re disgusting
Greasing the doo back buddy = Going with the flow buddy
Wheezing on the buffest = Getting high on life
Harsh ride = rough ride/ rough time
Babehood = a time in age when one (a woman) is a babe
Buff spikes on top of his melon = spiked hair
Checkin her cheecks = copping a feel on a woman’s rear end
You should be with your mug = You should like your look/face
Crusty mops = hair
Jive = cool
Chirp in your lobes = tell you something
Fill the furnace, pack the cheeks, and stuff the gills = Get full on food
Tweaked = crazed
Check out the fresh nuggs = check out my fresh look
Don’t tax my gig so hardcore cruster = don’t charge me for having fun/don’t ruin my good time, old man
Adding -age to someone’s name or a word to create a 90’s era emphasis on the word or name.
-Examples: grind-age, Dave-age, flame-age, Link-age, US of A-age, etc.
Life Lessons
Being popular is not one of the essential needs of life. ‘Encino Man’ teaches us that the basic essential needs of life are basic things that you need to survive life: food, friends, family, fun, and sex. This lesson is taught to us periodically throughout the movie but one main scene points out the lesson specifically. The main bully in high school, Matt, punches Link in the face and Link doesn’t punch him back. Afterwards, when Dave states that Link should have fought back, Stoney says “Cavemen aren’t like us. They fought for food and survival, not for popularity.”
Making friends can happen anywhere and with anyone. ‘Encino Man’ teaches us that friends can be found in strange places and that color, rank, and even language shouldn’t hold us back from making connections. We learn this lesson when Link, Dave, and Stoney go into an underground nightclub and meet Hispanic counterparts that understand their lingo and their way of having fun. A perfect example of their friendly mind melt is this quote: “Stoney is the crustiest vato I’ve ever witnessed, so don’t harsh his gig, bud-dy!”
You don’t have to do drugs to have a good time. ‘Encino Man’ teaches us that if you want to have fun, it’s all about doing things that are fun. Like going to an amusement park and riding roller coaster rides, going to a department store and wheezing the juice or just dancing around. Link demonstrates this lesson when he chooses to drink hot sauce rather than tequila to get him revved up for dancing.
“You don’t bag your friends just because they get in your way.” ‘Encino Man‘ teaches us thatyou shouldn’t just give up on a friend because their life makes your life a little complicated. IF the friend is a good friend, the best thing to do is to try to talk it out and find a resolution that suits both of you.
Bullies don’t win. Why? Because they always do something dirty to prove themselves. ‘Encino Man’ teaches us this lesson when Matt breaks into Dave’s home to steal photos of Link before his modern man makeover. Bullies end up looking dumb for trying so hard to prove themselves as a member of popular society.
There were more lessons that I came up with before when I originally wrote this. I can’t remember them now, unfortunately. But all the lingo is there. I hope some of the 90’s babies read this, laugh, and remember the fun and easy going times of the 90's. IF you read the original post and enjoyed it, drop by my message box and let me know! I hope you'll enjoy this one too. I sure enjoyed writing it.
